CMS Builder Friendly Web Hosts (Post Yours!)

We've had a number of people ask about CMS Builder friendly web hosts. I'd like to use this thread to track them. If you know of a web host that supports CMS Builder, please take a moment and post the name and url of your hosting provider. CMS Builder currently requires PHP v5.2 and Mysql v5.0.15. PHP 5.2 has been out for over a year (link), and there's a big push on to get hosts and software vendors to switch over by Feb 8, 2008 (see http://gophp5.org). Major programs such as phpMyAdmin (link) are switching and won't be bothering to support older versions after that date. The PHP people recommend 5.2 - and are working on 6.0. If your host still runs PHP4, they are way out of date. MySql 5.0.15 (the first production release of v5) has been out even longer - over 2 years (link). The MySql people currently recommend 5.0, are about to move up to 5.1, and they're working on 6.0 There's lots of reasons to run recent software, one is that it lets us spend time on making better software for you, another is it's more secure. PHP posts a list of security bugs on their front page (link). When you go to php.net, and you see words like "remotely trigger-able buffer overflow", you know right away that sounds like something you don't want. There's lots of hosts that have recent software, but there's still some that don't, so let's all post our hosts here to make it easier for others to find a good host and to support those companies that put the effort in to run up to date software. Thanks everybody. :) Dave Edis - Senior Developer interactivetools.com

I'll start. We offer hosting ourselves but for resellers and multiple sites we often recommend: http://www.dreamhost.com/ They have plans starts at $10.95 a month and include a ton of features. They're even cheaper if you commit to more than a month at a time. Dave Edis - Senior Developer interactivetools.com

I have been using BlueHost now for a few years and have had a great experience. When possible I will use them for my client's websites because I already know I will have the tools and the control I need for my sites and applications. I think they have an excellent price for what you receive (6.95/mo). They have great support. They responded well to my requests to upgrade a couple of my accounts to PHP v5.2.5. They already had current version of MySQL for CMS Builder to work properly. I have tried many low-budget hosts over my 10 years of website experience and BlueHost really is a great value in my opinion. I am happy to recommend them to anyone. I have signed up as an affiliate with them because I like them so much (I am picky with who I recommend). If you're interested in hosting with BlueHost I would appreciate it if you would use my affiliate link to give me credit: http://www.bluehost.com/track/teriance/it Regards, Brian

I've used ServInt for years: http://www.servint.net/. They meet all the software requirements and have great customer support. They specialize in VPS servers, which is what I'm running to host my customer websites. Darren Hester www.designsbydarren.com

Over the years I have been through quite a few hosting companies. A few years ago, I hosted a site with IXWebhosting and have been with them ever since. I have about 40 domains hosted on their servers ... some Unix and some Windows. All the problems I ever had with other hosts is non-existent with this company. Great bang for the buck! http://www.ixwebhosting.com/

I would recommend my webhost. I have been with them for more than 4 years and is still hosting my site with them. They are very responsive to all my support questions. I seldom run into any problem and server uptime is very good. After all, they have been in the hosting business since 2001. I would say their service is reliable and come highly recommended. Check them out at http://www.mxhub.com . Roly paradise~ :)

To add to the record: www.midphase.com has treated us well. As a hosting reseller we use their reseller portal www.autica.com. Very reasonable support record. We have 30+ sites listed with them. J.

My host provider is http://www.icdsoft.com which always stays updated and provide help and utilities to switch you from one version to another if required. I have used them exclusively over the last 9 years because they always have live human bodies on duty every minute of every day of every year. They offer a guaranteed response in one hour to everyone but my experience has been an average 9-minute response time. They have data redundancy and backup at three data centres in three different time zones.

In the UK there is http://www.ehosting.co.uk/ whom I have never had a problem with, excellent control panel and answer support tickets very quickly, often within an hour or two. Example of their service, recently I needed PHP5 and MySQL5 but was on a PHP4 server, eHosting replied that they were moving everyone across to version 5 in the next few months. I mentioned cmsBuilder requirements and got moved to a new server that weekend. I'm sure there are many other great hosts over here but I've no reason to move just now. Best Wishes, Mickey

GoDaddy is another option and for a big company they offer great support 24/7 for those of us who work late into the night and need an answer at 2am. Plus they are the only company I have worked with that have phoned me when my domains were coming due to see if I wanted to renew. Liz maia-consulting.com
