site migration problems

Hi There I'm having a large problem with switching a site over to another server. I initially built the site on a test Unix enabled server the site is .php. The whole site needs to be moved to a SFTP server which is proving difficult. I have set the new server up with a cgi_bin folder (enabled) but I get this fault when I try to access the admin.cgi file. Alert: The following settings need to be updated in: Admin > Server Settings: Invalid 'Website Root Directory': D:/hshome/w1mail/w1.ie/fulbright_test/ Invalid 'Upload Directory': D:/hshome/w1mail/w1.ie/fulbright_test/cms/uploads/ Invalid 'Publish Directory': D:/hshome/w1mail/w1.ie/fulbright_test/cms/publish/ Error: Can't write to '/var/www/www.fulbright.ie/docs/cgi_bin/data/error.log' : Permission denied at /var/www/www.fulbright.ie/docs/cgi_bin/modules//IT/Error.pm line 60. Also the server company are telling me I need to do a dump of the site database for them to upload or save in the right folder, which doesn't seem right to me considering the other post on your forum regarding server changes for article manager sites say that you just copy the files over and change the URL settings in the control panel and off ya go. Some help with this would be brilliant. Thanks a mill

Are you using flat file or MySql? If flat file, you are correct, you just move the files over. You are still able to login, correct? All you need to then is go to the admin section and update your paths. If you are using MySql then you would need to do a dump and all that.

Hi Owen, Thanks for posting! It sounds like Webfire has some great details for you about this. If you were using a MySQL database you'll want to ensure that you can get that content moved over to the new server. Also, as Webfire mentioned, if you can still log into the admin program you can head to Admin->Server Settings to change the paths that are mentioned here. If you do have any other details about this or any other questions, just let me know! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

HI All Thanks for your help with this. The problem was I couldn't get into the admin.cgi file at all it was just returning faults mentioned above so I wasn't even able to log in to change settings. So I just located settings.dat.cgi file in cgi_bin and changed the url settings for article manager in the code there because I couldn't get into the login at all. So this worked perfectly. Thanks for your posts guys Best Regards Owen

Makes sense. When you move the sites, you do need to keep the same directory structure for the admin stuff or you can't login. Glad it worked out for you.
