publishing taking a while for a single article

Has anyone found a way to speed up publishing of a single article? When I post a new article it takes about 45 seconds to run through all the publishing rules, even if its one article. I changed most publishing rules to not publish everytime, but it still seems to take a while. I'm also still using the flatfile method. Webmaster http://news.carjunky.com

Hi there, Even updating a single article can have a lot of different publish rules to modify -- category indexes, global indexes, printer friendly pages, xml feeds and more. Article Manager will run through and check all of your publish rules to see if anything needs to be published for that article, regardless of whether it's set to publish or not: That option tells it that it should *always* publish, even if it doesn't need it. Unless you're making changes to the files externally, you'll probably never need to have that option set for any publish rule. :) I hope this helps. :) Donna

Hi carminejg3, It's tough to really get around this, but you can disable some of your publishing rules that don't need to be updated each time an article is saved, which may help speed things up depending on your configuration. This isn't usually recommended however as you could inadvertently leave outdated files on your site. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Jake... I have 45 Publishing rules.... So anything will help lol.... I also have this site on a dedicated server, so is there a way I could have it run through all publishing rules without a delay.... That seems to eat the most time, the stopping and waiting for the next step. If I could kill the delay, for day to day publishing of articles it would make it less then 10 seconds per article. I know this may involve me making a change in the code somewhere but, it would really be worth it. Webmaster http://news.carjunky.com

Hi there, As Jake mentioned, disabling some of the publish rules that aren't used on day-to-day article updating might be the best bet. When you needed to update those publish rules directly, you could always pop back to the Publishing page and run them manually. Would something like that work for you? Donna

it might. but about 15 of the rules are renaming pages from art1 to art2 so i need them. I opened the refresh time to 30seconds, hoping the system just runs through all the rules without pausing then that might work for me for now. I also read i could go to mysql and back to flat files, so i might try moving the data into mysql, that might also help me a lot. Webmaster http://news.carjunky.com
