file names and links are being changed to "______" (blank) ? Can't Post

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of publishing my site right now, the transition was sooo smooth from 1.41 to 2. Even the template is 99% the same. The only problem I'm having right now is that links that used to be like this:

http://www.ansarweb.net/artman3/publish/articles/alf/article_2399.php

Are now looking like this:

http://www.ansarweb.net/artman2/publish/_____________80/___________________________________________________2399.php

How should I fix this please?

Ahh, I see what's going on. Only alpha-numeric chars are allowed in filenames (a-zA-Z0-9-), everything else is replaced with underscores. So on import it's creating a filename for all your articles based on the title, and replacing all the non-alphanumeric chars with underscores.

Since your installation is in a different language with a different character set you're getting ALL underscores!

So, there's a few options here. To have it publish the old article filename format you could do this:

Go to: Admin > Publishing > Article Pages
and change the filename to "article_<artNum>" or "<catFile>/article_<artNum>" then republish all your articles.

To change the category directory names you can edit each category and enter the filename you want or change their publish rules in a similar way to be number based.

There may be some other issues when creating new articles that might require unique filenames. I can do some testing on that on Monday and let you know.

Let me ask you, how would you like your articles named? Would you like to be able to create custom filenames for them moving forward? How do you name other files on your site? Do they use an extended character set?

Well that's kind of weird because all my file names were in English. Yes the website content and articles are in Arabic but I know better than naming my files in Arabic lol, they are all in English.

I appreciate your effort in looking into the matter greatly. I do not really mind how my files are named, numeric or whatever is fine by me as long as they work well. I do not need an extended character set really, I like to use English everywhere in my programs so they can work smoothly.

Again, thank you so much for the help,

mekaeel

update:

1- Only the default named categories from my previous AM were messed up, other categories that I specified their names are fine. Even though the default category name from before was in English! but when it converted to AM 2 for some reason it took the Arabic category name instead of the English default Filename prefix. Again that's only for the categories I used the default naming with.

2- the article renaming did not work for me, they still appear as "____" for some reason.

and I did not really get the part of the publish rule, what is that and what does it do?

any suggestions?

Mekaeel,

Just wanted to check back on this thread. Are you still having problems or did you get it worked out?

Did you trying publishing Articles Pages with a filename of "article_<artNum>"?

I've updated the import script for the next release so it won't insert extra underscores when it's generating a filename and the title contains non-alphanumeric characters.

Let me know if there's anything else we can do help.

well actually it didn't work for me for some reason. I did put the "article_<artNum>" and different formats as well but none changed anything, and yes I published everything after each change but still the problem remains Frown.

anything I can do?

Hmm. Well, changing the publish rule filename won't erase the already published files, but it should publish new files and link to them.

Do you want to send me a link to your artman and login info (for artman) and I can take a look? You can fill out a support request or just private message me through the forum.

One way or another, we'll get it working for you! ;)
