create a single menu with only categories I want?

If my categories look like this: a. b. c. c.1 c.2 c.3 d. d.1 d.2 e. Is it possible to create a single menu which ONLY has categories c, c.2, d.1, and e? I played with the categories options for quite a while and I could not come up with the results I want.

Hi there. Thanks for posting! My first thought here is that you could actually setup a custom category field called "show in custom menu". That way, for each category, you can tell it whether it will show up on the new menu you are trying to create. Then on your menu template, you would just need to do a little bit of templateif-ing to determine which categories are going to appear. Now, you could take this one step further and create a new publish rule that creates the custom menu. That way, you could use a completely different template and actually have a regular menu as well as a custom menu. Does that sound like it would work? Let me know and I can go into more detail for you here . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi there. Thanks for hanging on! Theo actually just pointed out that there is an easier way to do this than I had started thinking. Basically, when you create a new category menu publish rule, you can select which categories it will display. So here's all you would need to do: 1. Log into Article Manager and go to Admin. 2. From Admin, select Publishing and click to create a new rule. 3. Rule name and description can be anything you like. 4. Rule type should be set to "a category menu". 5. Template can be set to "categoryMenus/categoryMenu.html 6. Placeholder Set Name can be set as something like "customMenu". 7. For the Published Files section, select One file - listing all selected categories. 8. Filename can be something like "customMenu" and extension can be left as is. 9. Scroll down to Category Filter and just select the categories you wanted to appear in your menu. And that's it. Hit save and publish this listing. You'll now have a file created for you that only has those specific categories in it. You'll be able to include it onto any of your other Article Manager template by using: <!--#include virtual="$published.customMenu.webpath$" --> One important thing here is that the part in that include which says "customMenu" needs to be the same as what you used in step 6. How does that all sound? Give it a shot and let me know how you make out . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

I actually employed the method you described before and it is working well, but I will remember this method as it is simpler. Thank you.

I tried using your method - but I am getting hung up on where to find the file that I can change the template reference. It is grayed out in the index page in which I want to make the change, and I have tried to track the template holder section where I can make the changes - but I am all a bit new to this - any help would be appreciated - Doug

Hi Doug. Thanks for trying out my walk through . I am not actually quite sure where you are getting stuck though. What step had you made it to? And is the problem you are having inside the Admin interface or on one of your templates. Perhaps you could attach a screenshot of what you are seeing on your page because I haven't actually come across any menus that were greyed out. I know it isn't going to be anything major so I am sure we'll get it all sorted out . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
