I don't see the Javascript Web Feed Generator in Artman2.

That's right, we've dropped the default javascript feed and replaced it with a default RSS feed. RSS seems to be the new world order these days.
Artman2 lets you publish an unlimited number of the different types of pages, though, and has some powerful placeholder modifiers that would make it easy to recreate the javascript feed pages if desired.

Article Manager 2 doesn't give you javascript feeds by default, it does something better. It gives you the tools to easily "create" javascript feeds or whatever else you might want or need now or in the future.
Something else you may want to look at is free web services that turn RSS into a javascript feed. I googled for "RSS javascript feed" and the very fist like was a service that did just that: http://www.rss-to-javascript.com/

Well, Javascript is a very outdated and kludgey method of syndication. It's old technology, no one really does that anymore. Every javascript tag you pull from other site delays the loading of your page until that file has been pulled in.
Nowadays, it's about getting RSS feeds onto user's homepages and readers, or letting other webmasters syndicate your headlines from your RSS files.
If you really want to continue with the Javascript route, we can show you how to create a basic javascript feed, but it's not going to have the full features that the v1 syndication had (such as color selections).
But my honest recommendation is to abandon the javascript feeds and go with the more elegant RSS technology that has the additional benefit of user-side syndication.

As versatile as JS is, I'm also more reluctant nowadays about relying on it for essential tasks. I hear there's a growing number of web surfers who simply disable JS altogether to protect themselves from cross-site scripting vulnerabilities.

frankly, I'm a little (ok, maybe a bit more than a little) disappointed in this change... Why, you might ask?
Well, frankly, I've got nearly a thousand categories on my site. I had always used the syndication tools to get the feed exactly how I wanted it on my site. However, I now need to go through each of the category's pages and make the changes. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see a method in the new version that allows for as much customization as that way allowed.

I'd also like to see it brought back.
Frankly, the sites using our javascript feed will not be very happy, and inserting a line of javascript is always easier than a full RSS (PHP based typically) parser.
We will loose traffic. And yes- we know that we can build up a stand alone AM to JS customizable category convertor, but it will take much work.

Hello from Athens.
About the webfeed generator we must say that we loose a lot of traffic too.
Many sites (more than 100) have our script with headlines and photos from our news
( http://apn.gr ) and the rss is not the same. With the webfeed generator a lot of sites
has content from our categories for many pages.
And from a first view we find difficult the new AM. We see problems to publish the pages ( we have more than of 4500 articles) every time we have a new page.
We see problems with google adsense ( see our index page now http://apn.gr and the
new AM page http://www.apn.gr/manager2/publish/
at the new index we don't see google ads at all!!!
One other problem is that we have problems to admin the site into IE,
at Firefox its ok,
into IE we see a xml error everytime we try to admin the manager2 page!!!
Strange error.
We will make the new update 2.01 to see if some changes.
But the first impression is little strange about the new AM2.
We will try it more before we make the change.
But we have 4500 articles and its difficult to stay at AM1.

Hi Guys,
I can understand wanting to keep your javascript feeds going if you have sites using them. What I'd recommend is recreating them with publish rules. I'll talk to the support staff and see if I can find someone to write up a tutorial on that. In the mean time, if anyone wants to give it a shot, you should be able to make something almost identical and have it published in the same place as your old javascript feeds so websites using them wouldn't notice any difference.

Might I suggest taking a look at "feedforall" RSS2HTML?

I have been using the free version for over a year on numerous sites with an RSS feed generated from AM - and have never had a problem. They have recently released a couple of much more advanced versions - but - the free one has been OK up until now ;-)
Of course, it won't take the place of the sign-up process, but it appears to be an easy enough work around with all these new rules available in 2.x!
BTW: I have no other relationship with feedforall sans been a satisfied user.

any luck on the tutorial?
I'm still having no luck in figuring out a way to recreate what the old system let me do. After all, each team site's font color was different, based on the team colors. I had either 1, 3, or 5 articles showing on a page (depending on the level of the site), with a more button that accessed all of the current articles within that section.
I'm not seeing anything that will allow me to fully recreate what I had done.

I guess when it comes right down to it, the question I'm having is this:
I understand the desire to switch to RSS. After all, I'd consider having the RSS feeds be available to the public, for those who may want them
I understand that you feel that the JS solution is outdated.
However, the bottom line is that it's a solution that works. Is it not possible to incorporate the feed generator from v1 into v2 for those of us who would like to continue to utilize this method?

Hi pistolpl,
So far I have a Publish Rule set up to create global index JavaScript feed to match the 1.41 global (All categories) feed by using a customized template. Actually I grabbed the syndicate.js template from 1.41 and did some updating.
I want to do some more testing, create JS feeds for each category and put the steps together then I will post the details.
Having the feed generator (or something similar) is also something I'm looking into. :)

Good news! We are waiting your solution.
For now, for me, I am sticking to AM1 just for webfeed generator. I need it.
If an alternative is not available in AM2, no question to upgrade for me.

now... how about multiple categories?... that was probably always the next most requested feature after a SQL version... get that capability, and you'll have THE perfect product

actually, I think I may have spoken too soon.
Take a look at one of the category pages that has been done so far --http://www.mopsquad.com/artman2/publish/Generation_X_462/index.htm. The first page comes up fine, but when you click on Next to see the second page of results, it's coming up with an error message - Error: Unknown fieldname '[unknown placeholder $form.keywordSearchFields$]'!
Any ideas?
