Validate a bug Can't Post

Can the IA staff validate a feature to determine if it is a bug or a bad publishing rule on my end?

Scenario: I am setting up the style sheet to publish to a unique directory. I only want the style sheet to publish to a unique directory, so all other single page publishing rules would still publish to the default directory. I change the style sheet rule to publish in a custom directory. I then do a publish all and receive an error message that the first single page publishing rule in my list does not have a custom publish url defined.

It seems that if I declare one single page custom directory, I have to go define everyone of them. Can you try to replicate and let me know if it a bug or just one of my publishing rules?

thank you for the assistance.

jeff

Hi,

I wasn't able to reproduce the error you describe when publishing the style sheet to a unique directory.

Here is my steps when modifying the Style Sheet (singlePage) rule.

1. Change the "Published File" name to styles.css
2. In the Publish Dir section, select the radio button for "Use custom publish directory"
3. For the Publish Dir field, clicked the Browse button and created a stylesheets directory and selected it.
4. For the Publish URL field, I entered the full URL to the stylesheets directory.

Then Save and Publish All.

If you a getting an error when publishing all, check the first singlePage publish rule to confirm that radio button for "Use custom publish directory" is selected.

You can also track down which rule is causing the issue by publishing them one at a time.

Hope that helps.

Re: [ChetW] Validate a bug [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you for the instructions. It helped fixed my problem.

A follow up question. I would like to use the publish URL, but not have the tool publish the style sheet. It is very cumbersome to make style sheet changes and then have to publish. Is it possible to have this?

Hi Jeff,

What about this:
Turn off (disable) the Publishing Rule for the stylesheet. Then just edit the published stylesheet directly (not the stylesheet template).

The stylesheet placeholder will still work as the rule still exists, it just isn't enabled to publish.

Note: keep backups of your edited stylesheet so if the Publishing Rule for the stylesheet is accidently enabled and published, you can restore the stylesheet it overwrites.

Hope this helps and I was clear in my description. :)
Happy New Year!

Cheers
