Any idea on how to make sure summary images (thumbnails) can be clicked as if they were links. That would help my users a lot. cheers

Hi Harvey, This is definitely possible and how you'll set this up really depends on the way you're outputting these images in your template file. If you can post a quick snippet of code that shows how your articles are currently being output with the images, I'll outline for you how you can set up the summary image so it links to the article page. I look forward to hearing from you! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

The problem is that I've tried to do it several times, and even with a friend who is a developer and we just can't figure out which code is the thumbnail code. We've tried several of the placeholders and none work. So I can't copy and post which code from the template relates to thumbnails, as I don't know.

Hi Harvey, Thanks for the post! Can you let me know which page you're working with, and how you're outputting the images currently onto your site? I'm not sure if you're using embedded images (***imageX***) to output the thumbnails or if you have a specific field that you've set up for the summary images but any additional details about how you're uploading these images and outputting them would be great. Once I have an idea of how you're currently doing things I can outline for you where you'll make the change to have the thumbnail link directly to the detailed article page. I look forward to hearing from you! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi Harvey, Thanks for your reply! When you originally upload the image, there is a drop-down menu in the pop-up box labeled "Link". If you take a look at this, there are options to link the image to either the full size version of the image or the article itself. Try using that and let us know if you have any other questions. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

I tried that and it didn't change anything (tested in both IE and FF). Also, I don't like that option because I would have to manually edit thousands of images to enable this and because most of the time, the article is not published yet, it will be difficult and cumbersome for some of my less tech savvy writers to figure out. Is there any other way that is automatic, using place holders from embed media published in the summary instead, where a single site wide publish would switch on all those exisitng thumbnails? Thanks

Hi Harvey, Using the method you've described here, there isn't really a way you'll be able to do this. With having the summary text and the summary image in the same field we can't just wrap that field with a link so there isn't an automatic way that you'll be able to have these images link to the article. While your existing articles wouldn't benefit from this, one thing you could do moving forward is add a new upload field specifically for the "Summary Image". You can then output this image on the template right beside your summary, but because it'll be a new upload field we can have the image that is uploaded link to the full article. Let me know if you'd like any more details about this! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Would there be a way to extract the image from the embed media and tell it to go into that new placeholder instead. This way the process could be automated, and I wouldn't have to back fixing thousands of articles.

Hi Harvey, Unfortunately there isn't any way to swap data between fields like this - Article Manager just isn't set up to perform any types of bulk database operations. Let us know if you have any other questions. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
