Special Category Pages with Images

During the year we develop some major events categories. In AM1, this was with a special template and adding the logo to categories at Parent and sub-category levels. In AM2, adding the logo is ok, uploading it to the Parent and sub-category and then by adding the code to the templates with; <!-- templateCell : category.image.row --> $category.image$ <!-- templateCell : category.image.row --> <img src="$file.webUrl$" height="$file.height$" width="$file.width$" /> <!-- /templateCell : category.image.row --> However, how is the template added? Is it a case of placing the template in the templates folder and then then using the 'Filename.SHML' in the category form to identify the template? Also, what is difference between the three types, Regular, Unlinked and Disabled? Any pointers to some documentation which explains all of this would help Thanks

Hi there Thanks for posting! The templates in Article Manager 2 are going to work a little different. Instead of going with one template for each category, there is some logic that you can use on your one template to have it display different things depending on what category you are currently looking at. So what you would do is figure out the category number of the category you want that image to appear on and use what is called a template if to say: if the current category number is 5, then display the image. Does that make sense? What I want to do before going into more detail here is double check how many different categories this image needed to be on. Was it just the one category, or a whole bunch. With Article Manager 2 there are a while bunch of different ways to handle things like this on your template so if you could get back to me on this, I'll make sure we are using the best option to get things going. I look forward to hearing from you . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Ross, Thanks for the quick reply! There is just one category to be developed at the moment. There will be another later in the year. Also please remember my questions about what the difference is between the three types, Regular, Unlinked and Disabled? Thanks

Hi there. I am curious if we still needed to go over the different template stuff right now as it sounds like you only have the one category for now anyway so if you wanted to go over this once you get the second category going, that would work. Now, as for the different type of categories, here are some details . A Regular category is going to show up everywhere which means, there will be a link for it in the category list and its articles will appear in the different article lists on your site. An Unlinked category will not show up in the category list and its articles will not appear on indexes or headlines files. The actual files will still be created on your server so you can link to them though. Finally, the Disabled option will be the same as unlinked with one exception, the files won't be created on your server so you won't be able to link to them. One extra option is down at the bottom. If you check off Hide From Search, the category will not appear in the category drop down menu for you search engine. Does that all help? Let me know if there is anything I can go over in more detail for you . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Ross - I seem to be having problems with images on category pages as well. My site is at http://www.uga.edu/dcsemester. Since most of the categories are single pages, it was recommended that I think of my categoryIndex pages as article pages and set up the category database just like my article page database. Instead of adding content to article pages, I just entered a new category and entered the content there. Everything worked perfectly... except when I uploaded some images. First, I tried the "Image Gallery" field... no luck there. Then I tried to use the content area WYSIWYG... no luck there either. The browser button was missing from the editor. Any suggestions? Jan
