Solved AM1 google indexed pages problem when upgrading

For those of you who have AM1 sites with a large number of pages, the upgrade to AM2 can be a nightmare when it comes to the pages already indexed by search engines. I know it was a big problem for me because everyone was still going to the "old" site (which I dared not delete). After much trial and error, the problem is solved and it was so simple..... First off, you need to make sure you have enough space to keep the old site pages up. Then go to the templates for the AM1 site and have your category list point to the new am2 site on all of your pages. <!-- INCLUDE CATEGORY LIST --> <!--#include virtual="/am2/publish/include_globalMenu.shtml" --> Of course you will change the "am2" to whatever your webroot folder is named for your am2 site. This way, anyone landing on the old site will be automatically switched to the new site when they click anything on the menu. I also took out the search option on the old site as I want people to spend as little time there as possible. Can someone help for the code for those using php? *************** Marti Clayton That's Country

Hi Marti Thanks for posting! The problem you are running into isn't actually related number of articles you have. It's actually to do with the fact that Article Manager 2 publishes your article file names based on the article title instead of an auto incrementing article number. What you could do is check out this tutorial on our site that goes over how to have Article Manager publish your articles like it did in Article Manager 1: http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/doc.cgi?/articlemanager2/tutorials/change_to_old_filenames.html This way, you don't need to worry about having two copies of each article published. Could you give this a shot and let me know what you think? Now, if you were just wanted to change that include to a php include, there is actually neat little feature in the latest version of Article Manager 2 that will let you change SSI includes to PHP includes without having to go in there and do it all your self. You can find that by logging into Article Manager and going to Admin. From there, click on Publishing and look at the bottom for Advanced Commands... One of the options in there will be to change includes to PHP. That should get you going . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
