Hi there!

Article Manager publishes in utf-8 format -- a "worldwide" character set that allows any special characters.

So, you'll want to change the character encoding in your files from:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />

to this:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

Update that in all of your templates, republish, and your characters should show up correctly. :)

If not -- try running the character conversion script that comes with Article Manager. Instructions for that script can be found in our documentation. (Make sure you make a backup first!)

Donna, one thing, all my previous articles, went bad, can you help me out?

What should i do?

http://www.enriqueochoareza.com/

i got on previous articles the "funny characters":

"Los mecanismos de apertura y transparencia que utiliz&#65533; la Suprema Corte para resolver el caso de la Ley de Radio y Televisi&#65533;n han dejado atr&#65533;s diversos mitos y establecen un referente positivo de c&#65533;mo puede funcionar un nuevo sistema de justicia penal para el Pa&#65533;s. El siguiente reto para la Corte es impulsar que la publicidad y la transparencia se conviertan en la pr&#65533;ctica com&#65533;n del sistema de justicia."

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us!

It looks like your old articles need to be converted using the tool Donna mentioned in her previous post. You'll want to run the "convertDataToUnicode.cgi" script in Article Manager 2's /utils directory to convert your old articles to UTF-8 format. Instructions on using this script will be displayed when it is run. Note that this process will overwrite your current database, so you'll want to make backups of any articles you had created since upgrading as you'll need to re-enter them.

Give that a try and let us know if you need anything else. Smile

Re: [jbutron] Problems since AM2 upgrade [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't expect anyone to do anything about this, but I did want to mention my continued disappointment with version 2, as compared to version 1. Other than the fact that version 2 handles more articles than did version 1, which necessitated the upgrade, some of the features in version 2 were, in my opinion, a downgrade.

I loved the archive feature in version 1, especially since the search feature did not work for me after the (paid) upgrade to version 2, until I finally had to pay again to have someone fix it. Even with working search functions, I would prefer to have retained the ability to archive older articles. Retaining the ability to archive without it being a necessity would have been a nice upgrade, while removing a useful feature was not.

I lost several good backlinks when the syndication feature was removed in version 2, as RSS does not provide this advantage. Removing it was a step backwards in my opinion, as people did use it, and their use of it provided an advantage in my search engine ranking, whereas RSS has done nothing for me that I can determine. Adding RSS without removing syndication would have been a worthwhile upgrade.

I like the keyword features, although I wish that it would utilize multiple keywords without having to match each of them in the same order.

Version 2 appears to have several good new features but for the most part, I don't find them intuitive and haven't found the time to figure out what to do with them, especially since I lost most of the images from articles published before the upgrade to version 2, and generally have opted to spend what extra time I can find replacing them one by one, a chore that has proven to be problematic as well, since Article Manager doesn't successfully upload images on the first try, requiring at least three tries in order to upload four images. If Article Manager allowed me to reuse image numbers from broken images that I have removed, then at least I wouldn't have to go through the text each time, replacing the image numbers in the text. The ability to reuse image numbers would be a plus, by the way; since, once I have removed an image, why would I want to retire its image number?

I loved Article Manager 1, except that after three years of publishing in Article Manager 1, it would no longer function. Version 2, I'm not so crazy about; and if not for the fact that I now have five years invested in publishing through Article Manager, I'd look for something else.

Hi magic-ci,

Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts on this - we do appreciate hearing this type of feedback from customers, even if it isn't always positive.

I thought that I should mention to you that it's still possible to set up Article Manager 1 style syndicate feeds in the latest version by following this tutorial:
