Problem with search.

I was in my admin panel and I clicked on Articles. I clicked for the Advanced search. Searched for an Author's email address so that it would search the fields. However.... It comes up blank. I KNOW one is there because I have a submission from this person. Problem is, they've attempted (repeatedly even after warnings) to try to subvert the system by setting the date ahead in their article submissions in their attempt to stay "at the top". I wanted to search on this person to find all articles from them and delete them - no use keeping articles from someone abusing it. Anyway, when I did the search, it came up no results found. How is that possible?? Does it not search all fields in the articles? Any ideas on what else to do? (And no, I can't "ban" this person because they are using the guest account). Amber

Sorry, I guess add to this: In each article submission, it shows the creation date, last updated, but also another field called "date". Since the system automatically sets a date... is there no way to block that additional date field from the article submission forms to prevent people from changing them? Amber

Hi Amber, There's a couple things happening here so I'll address each one at a time. Article Manager can search on any article field, so if you do have a field for an email address in your article database chances are you just need to configure Article Manager to allow for searching on this field. To do this, go to Admin -> Database Editor and click the "edit table & fields" link for db_article. There's a field on this page called "Default Search Fields". Just enter in your article email field's name here and click save and you'll be able to search for this person's email address. To hide the date field, you'll need to go to the same page where you entered in the email field name above. On this page, use the "Advanced Commands" drop-down menu on the bottom-left part of the page and activate the "Enable System Field Editing" option. Now, click the "modify" link for your date field. On this page you can check off the "Hidden" checkbox to prevent users from manipulating the data in this field. Feel free to contact us if you need anything else. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Problem with the date thing: If you hide it, then try to submit an article, this error occurs: "Error: no year value specified! at (eval 177) line 5, <DATA> line 101." I had to turn it back on :( Amber

Hi Amber, Try using the "Not Editable" checkbox instead of the "Hidden" checkbox for the date field. Let me know how that works out. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi Jake Nope It did allow me to change the date still.... but it didn't save the article test at all, no errors, nothing. Said it saved, but didn't. (Not in the admin anywhere). I guess I'll just have to manually block people who do it since neither solution works. Amber

Hi Amber, I'm sorry we couldn't get this working for you. I spent some extra time on this problem today but I wasn't able to come up with any alternative solutions, although it is possible to set up Article Manager to create articles without any date assigned to them by default. Let us know if you need help with anything else. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
