Please Update the AM2 TinyMCE Editor!

The title pretty-much says it all. I know that CMS Builder is the new and most important kiddie on the block - but I think we AM2 users deserve some attention too. The current TinyMCE editor is years behind the version included with CMSB and it's about time iTools did the right thing. The biggest issue I have is that you cannot use the editor to "Browse" for images to upload from your computer. Instead you have to type in the location of an image into the "Source" dialog. This is a truly archaic mechanism and one that needs updating!

Hi Perchpole, We actually working on an update for Artman2 right now with a number of new features. The upload part of the wysiwyg is actually a custom add-on. It's not part of TinyMCE. So we'll have to build a custom one for Artman. I don't know if we can get that all done for the next version but we'll see if we can start by swapping in TinyMCE for the wysiwyg. That will at least give us something to build on. I personally prefer tinyMce as well. Dave Edis - Senior Developer interactivetools.com

Hi, Dave - It's encouraging to hear that an update is on the way. I'm a big fan of AM2. I really got into it earlier this year whilst constructing a large portal for a charity. The clients are very happy but the lack of a direct image placement tool remains an issue. The ***image*** placeholder technique is useful - but flawed - and the "type the Source here" method (outlined above) is just plain clumsy. Crucially, in the hands of the end user (people who are often unfamiliar with administering a website), both techniques present a bit of a challenge. My clients are not sufficiently confident in either method and, as a result, are not always getting the best out of AM2. As I've said, in this particular instance, the capability to "browse and insert" images would be so much easier (and far more instinctive). :0) Perch

Has anyone seen the cool media manager that Joomla (might I add the FREE Joomla) has? That would be the ideal add to AM2. With Joomla's media manager a client can create folders, add photos and use them multiple times instead of having to keep importing the same pic if used more than once. I have a country music site and I use a lot of the same pics over and over again and once I get to the 150th instance of the same pic, and multiply that by the number of articles I have on the site (6000?), the upload folder is using quite a bit of space for the same pics that we should only have to upload once. The process that AM2 uses right now is definitely archaic but since I originally purchased my copy of AM when the US dollar was high and the price was high, I have over $700 invested in AM2 and am not ready to make a change to something else. Come on Interactive Tools crew! We all purchased your software in good faith and the least you can do is to bring it to today's standards! This thread was started in May. Where is the update that was being worked on? It seems to me that once CMS Builder came out, AM2's rank on the to do list fell through the floor! In the past, I have been the biggest supporter of Article Manager because it's a great program but when I see what other CMS programs are offering for free, it's quite sad. *************** Marti Clayton That's Country

Marti - I think you're absolutely right. I've stated before that the TinyMCE interface needs a face lift - at the very least! The image upload mechanism - in particular - is looking pretty archaic. Unfortunately, due in part to the success of CMSB (of which I'm a huge fan), I suspect any future development of AM2 is guaranteed to be painfully slow. Shame. Perch
