No ability to sort image uploads Can't Post

When I upload file attachments, I get the ability to rearrange the order of the attachements via the up/down capability in the article creation dialog. However, I do not have the ability to rearrange the order of attached media files, either in the standard image upload in the article creation dialog or the gallery image upload I created (per the posted tutorial on creating photo galleries in article pages).

It seems that the "image upload" type versus the "list of files" types is what's creating this difference. I changed my gallery to "list of files" and got the desired up/down arrows to rearrange the order. However, the "list of files" type does not give me the ability to specify other attributes, such as links, in the same why that the "image upload" type gives me.

Seems like something is missing??

Re: [rebunkerjr] No ability to sort image uploads [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there,

Thanks for your post! :)

That's actually working as expected -- since the embedded images are not displayed in any particular order, the order they're listed in the back end doesn't really matter. Since you place the images with the placeholders, and you can put those placeholders anywhere you'd like in the summary fields, changing the order doesn't actually have any effect on the published pages. image1 is still going to appear wherever you put the ***image1*** placeholder, regardless of if it's before or after ***image2***.

Whereas with the attached images, they show up on the published page in whatever order they are in the back end -- so unlike the embedded media, the order you've chosen through the attachment manager is how they're displayed online.

Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Re: [Donna] No ability to sort image uploads [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the post.

Well, I guess it's sorta working as expected given the scenario you describe (and probably how the images were originally intended to work). However, I don't use them in a conventional fashion. In other words, I don't embed them in article using placeholders. Rather, I use them as a workaround for the fact that my server does not support thumbnails (so I had to come up with a different approach). If you read my posts concerning Photo Gallery you'll see exactly what I mean.

Example can be found here: http://www.robertbunker.com/artman2/publish/published_articles/cunningham_motorsports_test_photo_gallery.shtml

So, given the way I use the images, the order does matter. This wouldn't be too much of an issue if the upload process kept them in order. However, contrary to what you'd think (and what you imply in your post) if you put say 5 images on the upload screen, they are actually uploaded in some random order, not in the order you place them in the upload list. As a result, I have to upload them one at a time to ensure the proper order which is very time consuming.

Thanks
