My AM2 Wishlist Can't Post

My AM2 Wishlist:

I thought I would put some suggestions in the virtual suggestion box for a few features I would like to see added to AM2. Wink

1. Ability to assign a keyword/phrase to an article for crosslinking purposes (i.e. the functionality of text2link built-in).

2. RSS feeds for individual categories generated automatically
(i.e. each category automatically creates it's own feed without needing to create a "rule"). Note: A easy tutorial for accomplishing this via publishing rules can be found here: http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=50989#50989

3. Search caching : The ability for the system to cache searches
for a user-determined amount of time (save system resources, increase speed, etc.) I know this can (kind of) be done by generating static pages using a cron job, but it would be a more elegant solution to enable caching.

4. An integrated solution for the top 3 forum systems (phpbb, vbullitin, etc.) for a "discuss this article" link that would automatically generate a forum thread (again - I know this is going to be supported via 3rd party script(s), but if this is truly moving toward a CMS solution, these features should be built in).

5. Ability to add a rel="nofollow" tag to links in the wysiwyg editer.

6. For the system to self-correct any formatting errors it finds in the article summaries (i.e. replace " with ' etc.) that cause errors in the RSS feed.

7. Ability to allow comments to articles (this seems like a very basic addition that should have been added long ago Wink )

That's a few of the things I would like to see implemented. Anyone else?

Re: [WebFusion] My AM2 Wishlist [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there.

Thanks for posting!

I'll make sure the devs see this post and get these items added to our feature request list. I don't know for sure how all of this would be incorporated, but we are always looking for ways to improve our software and it's posts like these that make it easier for us Smile.

Dave is busy working away on the 2.1 release so we'll just have to see all the great new features he will be fitting into that release.

In the meantime, if anyone else has any suggestions, let us know Smile.

Just curious, what's wrong with creating a rule? You just need to create a single rule once for this and it will be automatic after that. Or is the suggestion we should have a rule for that by default?

My thoughts were (simply for ease of use) that the system could just have a checkbox in the category editer secton to enable a feed for that category.

Having said that, I've just followed the excellent tutorial on creating a category feed, and it worked like a charm Cool

Re: [WebFusion] My AM2 Wishlist [In reply to] Can't Post

I currently have 1 wishlist item to include.

I would like to see the option to modify what submission fields are visible to individual login accounts.

For instance, If a person has a category for "link trades", and has it set up in such a way that when submitting an article in the links category, Just the title and External Link fields are available

Another instance would be, If I hired a writer to post RSS feeds, on his individual login account, He would only have "Title" and "RSS_URL" (custom field) visible.

The article creation manager page can get confusing to common article submitters when alot of features are added. Being able to Limit what fields are available to individual accounts would really improve accuracy of user submissions.

Hi floodrod,

Thanks for the feedback.

I was thinking that it may be possible to control which article fields are visible by using templateif statements to display fields based on either the users access level or their user number.

I'm not really sure if this will be successful but I'm going to give it a shot later this week and let you know how it turns out. :)

WebFusion, great post!

I also would really enjoy the text2link script within the AM 2.0 app.

Actually, our text2link stopped working with the new upgrade. I believe AM scripts is workin on something, but nothing definitive yet.

This would be an awesome feature to have and would really help us webmasters who are making every effort to search optimize their websites.

thanks.

Here's mine:
- A online template editor.
- Page break
- A own "feature" where we can ad static pages as "about us" and so on.
- A system for better translations whit lang-files or an online language translator.
- Goforum integration whit VB, phpbb and so on. and have a way to use forum as a comment engine. For so have am2 to ad the latest comments after an article.
- Related articles feature.
- Integrated newsletters.
- An integrated messages system in the admin so the writers can send comments on an article. Very nice in the process of edit and evaluate submitted article.
- Option to have an e-mail to be sendt out to editors when a new article are ready for comment's (ref. to the point over).

Re: [klausre] My AM2 Wishlist [In reply to] Can't Post

Some great ideas!

I think another aspect of these features that Interactive tools may be missing out on are the "backend" income they could produce.

For example, I fully understand that it's a pain in the backside having to add features that are based on another piece of software (forums, for example). Why not, then make them a "optional module" and charge $50 or so for their addition. That would cover the cost of the few updates you may have to do when new versions of the forum packages come out, and would probably add a significant income stream to the product.

In fact, I think NOT having additional modules available as "plug ins" is missing the proverbial profit boat Cool

Re: [WebFusion] My AM2 Wishlist [In reply to] Can't Post

First of all, kudos on making AM2 more standards compliant and cleaner. It would be really awesome if you had XHTML 1.0 Transitional versions of the templates to make transitions into custom templates that are XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliant easier.

Regarding the WYSIWYG editor, I would be really great to be able to format with traditional HTML tags. Specifically, I would like to able to insert <h1..7> tags instead of just making the text bold and bigger. I would imagine that for most, this wouldn't be a problem. However when you've got a special font for the headers that isn't available in the default font dropdown menu, I have to go through the extra step of editing the source and adding the <h1..7> tags manually.

Very good suggestions in all the posts. Like also the forums suggestions and the comments system.

I'd also like to see a feature allowing the creation of a forum thread in response to a published article, but I'd like to see it include Simple Machines Forum (SMF), since I prefer that to phpBB.
