Multiple languages in Article Manager 2

Hi, Just wanted to pick your brains on this one. I want to have three versions of the articles I write. The first would be in English, then the second in Portuguese and the third in German. I am thinking that the best way to manage all of this is to actually implement three separate installations of the same software on the same site. Except have each cgi-bin directory for each installation as /english or /portuguese and /german. And then each installation with its own publish directory of names (again) www.whatever.com/english or /portuguese or /german. Is this idea too cumbersome? Is there an easier way? It seems to me a neat solution since, although I have written the article in English, I can wait for the German translator to do his bit through a different installation log-in and have him not interfere at all with the english installation. What do you think? Another question. Does this violate the software terms and conditions? That is, having three installations on the same domain?

I had a similar issue, one copy but into a number of seperate languages. My method was to use a programe called Translingo. This is mostly free to use, although some the translation engines may charge a fee, but there are still plenty to select which are no charge. All you do is to upload the Translingo programme to your cgi-bin directory, use the wizard to select the languages and translation engines you want to use, depending on the language there are a number offered and then paste in the system code into you home page just below the body tag. The final step is to place some idents, I have used some small flags, to let the visitor select the language. So when the visitor clicks on a flag for Portuguese or German I'm assuming that English is the site default language, then Translingo dynamically gets and displays your AM page in either Portuguese or German. No need for seperate translations. No seperate pages made for translated articles. As with all translations done this way there is a bit of error due to words being translated as is. To get back to your English home page, you will need to have a button which brings the visitor back to that page. You find Translingo here Hope this helps.

Hi there! There are a few ways you could set this up. Three installations is one option, but would require three separate licenses. You can certainly have the software installed multiple times on your server, but each installation requires its own license. Alternately, you could set it on one installation up using three parent categories -- one for each language. Then all of your regular categories would be sub-cats of those first three parent categories. You could set it up so that your translators only have access to their specific language categories as well, without interfering with your English articles. Does that sound like something that would work for you? :) Donna
