Multi image page

Hi there. I'm looking for the best way to build a global index page with the following: 1. 1 large image across the width of the page which has a url. 2. Below the large image I would like 4 smaller images in a row which also have url's. These would be spaced equidistantly across the width of the page (or available publishing area). 3. A block of text below the 4 smaller images. 4. A news ticker feed (for headlines from a category) similar to the home page at apple.com. The schema I thought of was to use three separate articles which are pulled in the global index page using SSI. It seems quite a complex way to do it though. My client will be building these pages and I would like them to use placeholders or similar to make it really easy for them. I have posted another request about navigation also. Many thanks, Rees.

Hi Rees, Thanks for the post! For these sections on the index page, will you be pulling from specific categories for any of these images and headlines? Also, should the most recent articles show up on the index page or would you like your client to be able to choose which articles go on the front page and where (main image, smaller image, block of text, etc.)? It seems like the best way to do this would be to just create some publishing rules with specific templates for each section on the index page, and then use some Server Side Includes to bring in these article lists. This way your client can create the articles and those will be displayed on the index page automatically. Let me know how this sounds Rees! Hi Mike, Many thanks for your feedback and tips on the other posts! Q: For these sections on the index page, will you be pulling from specific categories for any of these images and headlines? A: No, the don't have to come from specific categories. The images can come from anywhere as they are dedicated to the index page. The headlines would be fed from a specific category, eg. News. It would be good if only the latest 5 or 10 headlines were displayed with the ability to click through to the relevant AM article. Q: Also, should the most recent articles show up on the index page or would you like your client to be able to choose which articles go on the front page and where (main image, smaller image, block of text, etc.)? A: Part answered above but the ability to pick and choose would be a real bonus although probably too in-depth for my client. the latest 5 or 10 headlines would suffice. I tested (and modified the embeddedMedia.html template) a simple technique yesterday. All I did was publish an article with 4 images in a row using the Upload Images function. These can then be pulled into the index page from an artcile SSI. The larger image above (and summary text to he left) is handled by another SSI fed from a dedicated article. You can see a visual of this at http://kmicorporate.com/viz/home.jpg and an annotated version at http://kmicorporate.com/viz/home.jpg C: It seems like the best way to do this would be to just create some publishing rules with specific templates for each section on the index page, and then use some Server Side Includes to bring in these article lists. This way your client can create the articles and those will be displayed on the index page automatically. A: That's sort of the way I (well, my guy) had thought to do it. We are just trying to create the most efficient method. Is there any way we could change article 1 or 2 to a different article easily? We were thinking of using a specifically named SSI article. Regarding the navigation, we will be using different nav styles throughout the site. The navigation at the top will always be there. We would also like a sub nav panel at the left or right which is generated from a publishing rule. Is this possible? My guess is that we add an additional placholder set name for the sub nav from a dedicated rule. Many thanks for your response. Rees.

Hi Rees, Thanks for your post! The easiest thing to do here would probably be to create a specific category for the row of four images on your main page. Now, depending on how you want this set up you could use one article to bring in all of the images or a separate article for each one - it's up to you. If you decide to go with the one article option, there's a way to use the "Featured Article" checkbox in Article Manager to control which specific article will display in this area. I tried to take a look at the example you mentioned, but the link you provided doesn't seem to be working for me. All the same, I think that the method Mike originally proposed will be best here. Using SSI's to bring in separate files will give you the greatest degree of control over the content being displayed. It is possible to use different types of navigation as you described. Essentially, the process here would be to set up a different category menu template for each one of the menu styles you described, and then create a unique publishing rule for each one of these. Let us know if you have any other questions. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Thanks Jake. Your thoughts (and Mike's) are along the lines of my original idea, although you have both tightened this up for me. Great! Rees
