Moving site Can't Post

I need to move AM from its current location to a sub-domain.

Is there a simple way to do this?

Hi there,

Have you made a lot of modifications so far? If not, you can simply re-install it in the new location and go from there.

Alternately, try the same thing -- re-install at the new location, then move the following directories over:

/templates/
/data/
/uploads/

If you're using MySQL, convert to flatfile first, then switch back to MySQL once you've got everything in the new location. :)

After moving the folders, you'll need to re-set the publish paths -- this is done in the Server Settings under Admin. :)

Hi Donna

I have a lot of "My Includes" in the Publish Folder - I assume these must be moved as well?

Also I want to upgrade to Version 2 - so I guess that I should do that first and then move domain? When all is settled down I then want to upgrade to MySQL.

Hi Tony,

You don't really need to worry about moving any files in your publish directory unless they've been created outside of Article Manager. Once the software is at its new location, when you click the "Publish All" button these files will be recreated.

It's usually best to perform your upgrade on your current server before moving it to a new location, so that you're completing that process in an environment you're comfortable with.

Let us know if you have any other questions. Smile

Couldn't Tony install artman 2 in the new subdomain section of the site and simply then do the upgrade from there. This way the old files and directories are left in place and they could modify the new paths. I'm also assuming that the subdomains are still unknown urls so they can be used to test everything before publishing the new urls.

Hi carminejg3,

The upgrade can actually be done wherever you'd like - it's all a matter of preference. The upgrade process is also non-destructive, so Article Manager 2 won't overwrite your Article Manager 1 files unless you tell it to. Smile

Re: [Jake] Moving site [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Jake

I dont think that I made my query very clear...........!?

I am actually physically moving AM to a subdomain on a different domain on a different ISP - I was thinking of simply using a folder on the new domain to contain AM? The reason for this is that the original ISP could not support all the prereqs for AM and now they can. So my client wants to return to having a single ISP.

I still want to migrate to AM V2 and assume that it would be best to do that on the existing site and then move to the new ISP and domain? The reasoning here is that I do not want to instal V1 on the new location and then have to instal V2 anyway.

Any ideas, guidance and/or tips very welcome

Hi Tony,

In your case I would perform the upgrade on the existing server, and then just move your Article Manager 2 files over to the new ISP - whether you put these into a new folder or not is up to you, and will have no bearing on the software itself.

Once you've done that and the software is up and running on the new server, you'll need to update your file path and URL settings under Admin -> Server Settings. Once you've made that change, everything should be good to go - just hit the "Publish All" button under Admin -> Publishing.

I hope that helps!
