Image Problems Can't Post

I'm having a dilemma with images. In the "Insert Image" tool, I like the way I can specify the spacing options for the top, bottom, left or right of the image. BUT, I can't figure out how to actually insert an image with this specific tool. The first field says "Source:" What path do I put there? I've tried different urls/paths, but they're not working.

I'm also confused because I can upload images with the Upload Images tool where I can browse and upload images from my hard drive. With this feature, I see that I would insert the image placeholder in the article to get the image to appear. My problem is, I want to be able to use the spacing options that are available in the "Insert Image" tool I was talking about above. If I simply insert the image placeholder text though, I see no way to specify the spacing around the image.

Please help.

Thanks, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn

Thanks for posting!

When you upload an image using the image uploaded, you get those ***image1*** placeholders. If you were to do this though: ***image1:url*** you would just end up with the image's URL.

What this means is that you can upload that image to get it on your server, then use the placeholder with that :url modifier in the WYSIWYG editor's image insert so that it inserts for you.

Give that shot and let me know how you make out Smile.

Re: [candlefind] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ross,

Me again. I noticed that when I insert an image following the steps you showed me above, I get a broken image in the WYSIWYG editor itself. I can see the image when I preview the page, but I'd like to see it as I work on the page in the WYSIWYG. Can this be fixed?

Thanks,

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn

I have another idea for you Smile.

Keep uploading the images as you have (so that they get the ***image1*** placeholders) but instead of using ***image1:url*** in the link took try this instead.

Down at the bottom of the page, you'll see a little preview of the images you uploaded. If you right click on that and copy the link, that can be used in your WYSIWYG image tool. Just paste that in and insert and you should see the image in the editor now.

Give that a shot and let me know what you think Smile.

Greathings:

I have an other kind of problem. When I use the "ArticleManager1.41" I has an "art_field3" that was a list with 2 values:

1. http://mysite.com/images/icon.gif
2. ***image1:url***

And displays fine. However, when I update to ArticleManager2 for take the advantaje of MySQL DB, in my pages dont display the image; before displays as this:

<img src="http://mysite.com/artman/uploads/myimage.gif">

but now:

<img src="***image:url***" >

How can I resolve this?

Re: [Kanon_D_Geminis] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there.

Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!

From the looks of it, the image number isn't being published anymore. If you look at the tag you have there now:

<img src="***image:url***" >

there is no number. I am wondering if that number appears in the drop down still so could you double check that one of your options still actually says ***image1***? You can do that quite easily by logging into Article Manager and modifying an article. That will bring the menu up on your screen again.

I look forward to hearing from you Smile.

Hi there!

I think at this point, it'll be a little easier if we can take a look at it directly. Can I get you to fill out a support request form here?

https://www.interactivetools.com/support/email_support.cgi

With that, we can pop in and see what's going on right in the program. :)

Re: [Donna] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

I've used the same methods on a few websites and I can't quite figure it out for AM2 either. So far I've gathered that ***image1:url*** should be replaced with $file.webUrl$, but I don't understand how to specify which image I would like to have there. Was there a solution found to the above problem?

Hi Michael

Thanks for posting!

Could I get a bit more detail about what you are doing here? Are you working with a field in the system (ie: trying to put ***image1*** into a field and then display it on your template? Or are you working on the template only and trying to pick out a specific image?

Let me know and I'll see what options we have here Smile.

Re: [ross] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

On a few sites in AM, I did a drop down box with all the ***image#*** under say $art_field3$ on the cat index templates. I would enbed $art_field$ in the template and it worked. When converting over to AM2 this no longer works as the image isn't displayed. It only gathers ***image2*** when you view the source.

Re: [Mike4172] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Michael.

Thanks for clearing that up!

I see what you are trying to do and I have tested it out myself so I also agree that the drop down menu approach isn't quite going to get things done so we'll need to look into some alternatives.

What I am wondering now is if you wanted to user to actually be able to still upload the images for this field or would they just be choosing from the same ones for each article. By that I mean, will each article you create have a different image1 and image2 or will both images be exactly the same for each article and you just choose which one needs to be displayed.

If you could get back to me on this one, that would help me narrow down the list of different things we can try Smile.

Re: [ross] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ross,

Well its a sports site, so it'll be different images for each article.

1 big image will go at the top of the global index, then as the article slides into the older positions down the board, the big image is replaced by a small image.

To break it down even further, ***image1*** will always be the big image at top of global index, while the ***image2*** will always be the smaller image. However each image will be unique for each article. Hope your able to follow that.

I've found that if you use the $file.webUrl$ this default to ***image1***...is there a way to adjust it so I can use it as ***image2*** as well?

Michael

Re: [Mike4172] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Mike,

If the images are always going to be in the same spot, what I'd recommend instead of using ***imageX*** placeholders is to simply create a new upload field for each of the specific images. Would something like that work for you?

Re: [Mike4172] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

Great!

Essentially, what you'll do is first go into Admin -> Database Editor, then edit the Articles table. Click "Add Field" at the bottom of the page, and give it a Label (so you know what to do with it) and a Name (which will also be the placeholder -- for this example, I'll just call it "mainimage"). Under Field Type, choose Upload.

Feel free to muck about with the rest of the settings, but the defaults should work fine.

Now, when you create a new article, you'll have a new upload field. (Since you've got multiple images, you'll end up with multiple upload fields, but let's start with one for now.)

Now, you'll need to add the code to your template to have these fields show up. The placeholder will be (if you used the field name I mentioned above) $article.mainimage$ -- this will work like any regular placeholder, you can put it anywhere in the template that you want.

You'll also need to add in a templatecell for the placeholder so that it knows what to do with the placeholder. It will look like this:

Code
<!-- templatecell : article.mainimage.row -->

<img src="$file.webUrl$" alt="$file.title:htmlEncoded$" width="$file.width$" height="$file.height$">

<!-- /templateCell : article.mainimage.row -->

You can, of course, modify the code however you'd like -- if you need any extra code around the image, or whatever else you might want. This will work like any standard templateCell.

Give that a try and let me know how it works. :)

Re: [Donna] Image Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

It's Working!!! It's Working!!! (like Dr. Frankseinstein) xDDD

At same than Ross, I only can use the first image in my emmbedmedia uploads. However, I has left to use the ***image1*** placeholders; I was using the follow code:

Well, usually, we have the next code for display our thumbnails:
<img src="$article.art_field3$" width="100" height="70" border="0">

Or this:
<img src="***image1***” width="100" height="70" border="0">

We most change for this:
<!-- templateIf : $article.art_field3$ eq "***image1***" -->
$article.image$
<!-- templateCell : article.image.row -->
<!-- templateIf : $file.webUrl$ ne "" -->
<img src="$file.webUrl$" alt="$file.title$" width="100" height="70" border="0">
<!-- /templateIf -->
<!-- /templateCell : article.image.row -->
<!-- templateIf : $file.webUrl$ eq "" -->
<img src="http://www.cemda.org.mx/piezas/spacer.gif" width="100" height="70" border="0">
<!-- /templateIf -->
<!-- /templateCell : article.image.row -->
<!-- /templateIf -->

<!-- templateIf : $article.art_field3$ ne "***image1***" -->
<img src="http://www.cemda.org.mx/piezas/spacer.gif" width="100" height="70" border="0">
<!-- /templateIf -->

Yes, it's very great code part than our before <img> tag; but it's better and more optimized, and, NOT add any “extra” code when the AM2 publish all our content, because it finished being “the same code” at before. This works like:

1. Check if out "art_field3" have the value: ***image1***
1.1 Then, see for ***image1*** exist into our main emmbedMedia
1.1.1 If exist, place it.
1.2. Else don't have any image into our main emmbedMedia, place a spacer.gif

2. If out "art_field3" don't have the value: ***image1***
2.1. Place our spacer.gif

If any here can help you, letme know. If you can create an better code, letme know it. Only, fail with articles with more than 1 image, because place all images in the emmbedMedia.
