Help on Category - Different Templates and Publish locations

I know some of this was mentioned in another thread (http://www.interactivetools.com/iforum/Products_C2/Article_Manager_2_F31/Different_Templates_for_Categories_P52171/) but I think I'm a little lost here. I got this installed a month or so ago, but came back to get my editing / new site update/release done over the holidays when its quieter - however, I'm a little lost at how to create a template and location publishing for *each* category. i.e., right now, it looks like each category is set to go to http://www.dime-co.com/column/ - BUT, as I had with the previous edition, I had several go to their own categories (i.e., dime-co.com/business/ etc. I had done slightly different templates on those (mainly for the ad topics/sizes), but will be changing them a bit more this time. While I read the one post, it flew over my head. Not sure if thats because its Monday or new years day or both LOL - - can anyone give me the specific steps on how to set this in place? (I grasped that the rules idea was best... but how... ?) Amber

Can anyone help me with this? In short, how do I create different locations for each category? i.e., instead of http://www.dime-co.com/column/sports/ I want it to appear as http://www.dime-co.com/sports ?

Hi Amber. Thanks for posting! From the sounds of it here, you are looking to have all your category folders created right in the webroot instead of your default publish folder. The easiest way to do that would be to just change your default publish folder to your webroot. To do that, you just need to go to Admin and then Server Settings. You'll want to change the Publish Directory and Publish Folder URL fields. Give this a shot and let me know how you make out. Once you have the categories publishing to the right place, we'll have a look at your templates . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi Ross - that would work.... except I realized that there are "some" that I don't go directly to the same root folder. LOL - Sorry. i.e., business coach actually is bizcoach.dime-co.com, although it "has" a folder under root - would that work ? I did the change, the only minor problem I have (concern more than problem?) - not a huge deal because I can just leave the old stuff and revert to new but... Business coach as an example is the category name, but on my server I called the folder bizcoach (for short). I guess I can just leave them however it puts them. Now its just the templates - which btw, is this the way its supposed to be... http://www.dime-co.com/affiliate_success/index.html ? Nothing appears there, whereas http://www.dime-co.com/sports/testcolumn2.html has a test page - and has the logo... but strangely none of them actually appear as the original template that was set there (by you guys). When I preview the article inside the system, it loads as if it has the full template LOL Anyway, its not a huge issue as I need to set custom templates anyway, so I'll wait for your help on that. Thanks Ross :) Amber

This change of folder TOTALLY wiped out my original dime-co.com home page and overwrote it with blank!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I had to set it back to the original settings, but now I have to find my original index page - because I DIDN'T back it up - I did not expect it to write over that. How can I set it to the root folder WITHOUT it writing over my own index page?? Amber

Hi Amber, The easiest way would probably be to set the global index publish rule to publish to a specific directory. This is probably the one that overwrite your existing index page. So, modify the global index and set the custom publish directory to wherever you'd like that to publish. :) If you've got any other files with the same filenames as the Article Manager pages in your root directory, you'll want to change those as well. On the Publish Rule page in the admin, you can see the "Published as:" line that lets you know where it's being published, as relative to your Default Publish Directory. I hope this helps. :) Donna
