Hi! I could use some help here... GlobalMenu lists don't seem to nest properly when I hide an article or unlink it.

Hi trumpetmic, Menu links shouldn't be affected by article changes like this at all - could you post a link to an affected page? ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

I replied via email but haven't heard back yet, so I can post a bit here too: Here's the part that generates the list:
    $category.listItemStart$$category.name$$category.listItemEnd$ $category.listItemStart$$category.name$$category.listItemEnd$
Our site is http://sonlight.com We use the list in the dropdown menu at the top of the page. Thank you! -Mike

Hi Mike, Thanks for the post! I've had a look at this for you and I'm still not quite sure what the issue might be here. As Jake mentioned, the articles themselves really shouldn't have any effect on how your category list displays unless you're outputting articles along with your category names. If you could hide an article and link us to an example of the menu not working I'd be happy to have a look at this for you. I look forward to hearing from you! Would it work if I just pasted the funkified ul source here or would it be better if you had a link? If you need the link, I'll need to email the username and password on our secure testing server, since I don't want to publish the funkified menu to the live side.

Hi! Looking at your original post again and the live site, it seems that what you might have been doing was actually hiding/unlinking subcategories rather than articles themselves. If this is the case, there may be another thing you can try with the subcategory you were trying to hide. Because of the way the category list works and how the default
and
tags are displayed, the "hidden" category can't be the last subcategory in a list. For example, with this setup if you tried to hide the "Sonlight Newcomer™ 6" category (Under "Homeschool Curriculum>Sonlight Newcomer™ Curriculum Packages") you may run into an issue with a missing closing
or
tag. To remedy this, all you'll need to do is find the subcategories that you want to have hidden (or unlinked) and in the "Categories" section of Article Manager, click the "Up" button beside those specific categories until they're above at least one of the "visible" subcategories. As long as the hidden category isn't the last subcategory listed underneath it's parent you shouldn't run into any issues (in my same example above, if you hid "Sonlight Newcomer™ 4" instead you shouldn't see any format changes because it's not the last subcategory listed). If you'd still like me to test this myself, seeing an example of how the category list is affected would be great and you can pass along all of your FTP details and information about this installation here: https://www.interactivetools.com/support/email_support.cgi I hope this helps! Hey again MikeB! You're right. We are using categories for these drop-down menus and the problem with the ul structure happens when we hide a category. Aside from re-ordering our categories, is there another way to fix this problem? I ask because re-ordering our categories for technical purposes isn't usually something we can do, since category ordering is either based on a curriculum path or rationale resulting from analysis.

Hi, I'm glad to hear we're on the right track with this and one thing I'm curious about is when you'd need to be hiding specific categories or which categories you'd be hiding. When the categories are hidden, they won't be displayed in the category list so the order of these categories shouldn't actually make a difference on the live site. Regarding a way to work around this, if the dropdown functionality you have here needs to use
and
tags, there isn't really anything you'd be able to change to prevent this from happening. Let me know if you have any other questions! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
