Getting Lost. Help?

Can't Post

I have searched and looked for this more than once, and I can't find *anything* that is clearer than mud. i.e., post: http://www.interactivetools.com/iforum/Products_C2/Article_Manager_2_F31/Different_Templates_for_Categories_P52171/ No one ever posted what to do / how to do it. I don't want to use "IF" statements here, because there are definitely going to be too many and I don't want to slow the site. I have gone over the publishing rules, and the 2.x version of Artman is more confusing than 1 was. How on earth - please in pretty straightforward/simple terms - do I create a different template for each category and its articles? In artman 1 I could just specify which template to use... I haven't yet been able to figure out how to change it to new ones, only how to change "where" it publishes to. I'm another month in paying for this second licence... and still haven't gotten things like this up. (My first licence doesn't have anything different either except the category image, because I couldn't figure out what else to do!). Please? (Step by step would probably be clearest?) Amber

Hi Amber, I wrote out some instructions on how to do this in this thread: http://www.interactivetools.com/iforum/gforum.cgi?post=59148;search_string=different%20templates;t=search_engine#59148 Those steps are for the "Category Index" publishing rule, but you can follow the exact same procedure for article page publishing rules as well. If you have any further questions about this after going through that post, let us know and we'll get you on the right track! ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi Jake, Thanks for the reply... unfortunately its still clear as mud. Doesn't make sense... i.e., as to where do I tell it to call a specific template? See, this is the problem. In the older version of AM, we could just literally tell it to use a specific template (i.e., /templates/article/business.html for business articles...) etc. Now its confusing! I recognize there's more power to this one, but this part with all the 'rules' makes it much more frustrating. I'll try what you said - but I haven't a clue how / where I tell it to use a specific template because it just doesn't make sense. Amber PS - btw - I'm saying these as being a NON programmer. Yes I can do a LOT with web pages, adjusting code etc., but the thing I originally loved about the first AM is that "non programmers" or "non techies" could very simply get it up and running. To make the same kind of adjustments with the new AM, takes far more knowledge and time... from a standpoint of a non-techy/non-programmer to do the same things that I USED to do in the first AM

Ack! There's a problem. This all worked fine... was building to the default folders. Now - I had set up "diet" as a subdomain, so that anything that goes to http://www.thatsubject.com/diet/ will go to http://diet.thatsubject.com. (Never had a problem with this on our other site). So a few minutes ago, I did the 'rebuild' with the real URLS, (changed it from the default /topics/publish/ to the root). But ACK! http://www.thatsubject.com/%5Bunknown%20placeholder%20$published.categoryIndex.url$%5D When you go to: http://www.thatsubject.com/index.shtml And hold your mouse over Diet & Weight Loss on the left... it gives the unknown placeholder error. Yet I followed the instructions on this tutorial to have its own 'template'. Any ideas on what's happening? Amber

Hi Amber, What probably happened here is that you assigned a new placeholder set name to the new custom publishing rule you created. As long as there isn't any overlap between the categories that two or more publishing rules are using, they can have the same placeholder set name. You'll want to doublecheck that your Diet publishing rule has "categoryIndex" set as its placeholder set name. If you still can't get this going, feel free to submit a second-level support request here: http://www.interactivetools.com/support/ I hope that gets you on the right track. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
