Displaying Category Specific Field Next to Article Can't Post

Hello,

I was hoping there is a way to do this, just not sure how.

In my Article List template for Category Headlines I have created a table that will show Article Name, Date and the type of article (based on its category).

I am using this in the main Top Level category index page.

I have used the following:

<td width="470"><a href="$published.articlePage.url$">$article.title$</a></td>
<td width="200">$article.date$</td>
<td width="100">$category.article_type$</td>

So, the story is that my Top Level category includes several sub-cats that have different article types; (Note that the 'article_type' placeholder is category specific) for example,

HEALTH is the top level and is an article_type "STAFF"
while a sub category named 'COMMUNITY' is an article type 'COMMUNITY'
and a sub category named 'LEARNING MORE' is an article_type "STAFF".

The problem is that the category.article_type placeholder displays the actualy article_type for the main index category page.

What i would like it to do is say something like this:

ARTICLE 1 DATE STAFF
ARTICLE 2 DATE STAFF
ARTICLE 3 DATE COMMUNITY
ARTICLE 4 DATE COMMUNITY
etc..

what would be the proper placeholder for this instead of the $category.article_type$ placeholder?

Thanks for your time and efforts.

Sincerely,

LC

Re: [LostCoder] Displaying Category Specific Field Next to Article [In reply to] Can't Post

In addition to my above question, i have a follow-up styling question:::::

Hello,

I am trying to come up with a visually appealing way to display our current articles for a specific category.
right now, I am essentially using something like this:

<!-- templatecell : articleRow -->
<tr>
<td width="470"><div id="list_item"><a href="$published.articlePage.url$">$article.title$</a></div></td>
</tr>
<!-- /templatecell : articleRow -->

What this does, of course, is just list an article in a cell and then repeats this all the way down the page.

Is it possible to somehow change the color of the cell as it lists the articles; where the first cell might be grey, and the 2nd cell might be light blue, then grey again, then light blue and so on ?

This would just make it really easy for someone to visually separate each article.

Just wondering if there might be a solution for this that i do not see.

Thanks.

LC

Hi,

Thanks for the post!

You should be able to have the article specific category name appear by changing this bit of code:

Code

<td width="100">$category.article_type$</td>

to this:

Code

<td width="100">$category.name$</td>

Give this a try, and feel free to keep me updated on your progress. :)

Re: [ChetW] Displaying Category Specific Field Next to Article [In reply to] Can't Post

Chet,

Thanks for your post.

When i enter $category.name$ the system does display the actual name of the category or sub-cat that the article appears in.

My issue however, is that i need to check the actual "article_type" to determine what image to display next to the article using a TemplateIf statement.

my article_types have only three numeric settings, so for my templates i would need only to code 3 TemplateIf statements, as opposed to a separate statement for each category.

It is for this reason that i would like to find a way to actually display the article_type, by category.

Is this possible?

Thanks.

Re: [LostCoder] Displaying Category Specific Field Next to Article [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi LC,

I'm confused a little. Category Headlines are only going to display category placeholders specific to each category. If I'm looking at the HEALTH Category Headlines, I won't see any of the other category articles.

Are you instead referring to Global Headlines (Latest Headlines on the main page)?
This would include all categories.

Let me know so we can help you get things published the way you had in mind. :)

Also, if your article_type fields do have three numeric settings, the three templateif statements should be all you would need to display different content based on the article_type.

Cheers
