Different templates by category

I searched but couldn't find anything really useful... (sorry). How do I fairly quickly and easily, set a different template for each category? Majority is the same actually (layout wise), but I have different "sponsors" for each topic, kind of like how About has a different "guide" for each area. I need to be able to either: - customize each category to hold specific text (i.e., the guide name, about them) - and allow an "about me" kind of thing. That I understand is just another page... but they'll have the ability to add content. Is there a way to easily incorporate this also from a featured standpoint of articles? i.e, "business = michael", Michael's articles are featured on the main page, all other articles are supplemental results (lower down). Sorry, I guess that's two questions Amber

sorry - add to that... was reading this: http://www.interactivetools.com/iforum/Products_C2/gforum.cgi?post=60919;search_string=different%20templates%20for%20each%20category;t=search_engine#60919 I wasn't quite fully understanding how to go about this, but thinking this might be a solution if I wrap my mind around this correctly from the "guide" aspect/information?

Hi Amber, To set up new fields for use on your category pages, you would go to Admin -> Database Editor and click on the "edit table & fields" link for db_category. Here, you can add in new fields for any kind of text or images that you'd like to display on a category by category basis. The next step would be to add the placeholders for these fields to your templates. From the sounds of things you would want to add these to your categoryIndex.html template. So if you had a field called "guideName", you would add the $category.guideName$ placeholder to your template where you'd like that information displayed. The last step is to add in the content for each category. To do this, you would click the "Categories" link in Article Manager and then the "modify" link for one of your categories. Your new fields will now be here so you just need to enter in the relevant information. Does all of this make sense? I'm not sure I quite understand your second question though - would you mind elaborating on that a bit for me? Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions about this. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
