Has anyone found out if there is a way to copy or duplicate an article in AM2?

Hi there, Hmm. Well, I don't know of any way yet... but I'll pass that along. :) Right now, the best method is going to be... copying & pasting the content into a new article. :) But I'll add that to the requested features list! Donna

Hi Donna, Yep, that's what I've done. However, some articles have 50 plus pictures in them. This means a new upload of say 20 or 30 of the picture if I wish to split the article down the middle. This issue has just arisen and I'm faced with a couple of hours of extra uploads to do it. We use thumbnails linked t a hi-res so it's difficult to start manually dropping in a thumbnail and then linking to it's hi-res sister. Also, my client need to be able to manage article assets in a simple way. I hope this helps to illustrate why a copy or duplicate function is essential. Cheers, Rees.

Hi there, Out of curiousity, what's the end result that you're going for? Article Manager allows for articles in multiple categories, so rather than duplicating the article, can you not simply assign the article to multiple cats? Donna

Hi Donna, Thanks for coming back to me. No, it's not about publishing into multiple cats, it's about duplicating an existing article and then being able to use some of the content and images (or other assets) that are uploaded for that article. My client has asked that a large article is split into two parts. As mentioned before, we have uploaded many images (totalling over 200MB). My client wishes that half of these images are contained in another article. If we had to create the article again we would have to upload 100MB plus of images again. If we could duplicate the article then we could use the images already contained in that duplicated file. Does this make sense? My client was confused why we couldn't perform a "simple" copy or duplicate of an article. Incidentally, my client worked with me many years ago and is a seasoned graphic designer / web designer - not a web developer though. So, he is what you might call "educated in this business". I have another question coming about the search engine... ouch! Cheers, Rees.

Hi Rees, Yeah, I see why that would be a problem. Unfortunately... Article Manager doesn't really have functionality to split an article like that, so I'm afraid you'll need to re-upload any images that you want in a separate article. Sorry I don't have any better news for you. :) Donna

Hi Donna, Any chance of adding this feature? From an end users point of view it's quite a simple function. Cheers, Rees.

Hi Rees, Yep, everything requested in the forums is passed along to the developers for future consideration. We do offer custom programming, though ... so something might be available that way. See this post for more details: http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=62113#62113 Donna

Hi nelleke, I'm not sure what happened to that post, but if you wanted to enquire about custom programming you can email us at sales@interactivetools.com with a description of what you'd like to set up. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

You could probably accomplish this by going into the data files and duplicating content in there. You'd have to be really careful, and know what to look for, but it would be possible. You'd just have to make sure the article ID's and file names are unique, and any other system field that needs to be unique.... It's not the most elegant solution, but it's an option.
