Copying Version 1.41 files on upgrade Can't Post

I have successfully installed Version 2.16 and now am trying to copy the old files from Version 1.41 using upgradeFromVersion1_41.cgi. It has asked me for the old data and image directories. I am new to ArtMan and I am not clear which ones are meant, in particular are they under /cgi-bin/artman or just /artman. Can you please tell me that exact names I should look for, or how I can work out that info? The server page of the 1.41 admin lists Publish and Upload directories - are they the ones?

Thanks,

Peter Croft

Hi Peter,

Each server is setup a little differently, so I can't say exactly which folders they'll be in -- some servers have the data folders in the cgi-bin, some don't. Generally, you'd only have one though, so you'd just pick that. They'll definitely be named "data" and "images" though, so don't just grab any old folder. :)

However, if your site was setup a little oddly, it sounds like you may have duplicates, or can't find them? In which case yes, the best bet is to grab the directories from Article Manager 1's setup options and use those (although not the publish or upload directories -- you need specifically the "data" and "images" directories). If you to go Setup Options -> Server, one of the lines there (non-changeable) will say "program dir", with a path behind it ending in "exec".

Take this directory, and if replace "exec" with "data" and you should have the right one.

So, if you have:

/path/to/cgi-bin/artman/exec/

... you'll want:

/path/to/cgi-bin/artman/data/

There may or may not be a cgi-bin there, depending on your server setup.

For images, you can *probably* take whatever is in the "publish" directory, but replace "publish" with "images".

I hope this helps. :)

Thanks Donna, I think I got the right directories with your help. The script upgradeFromVersion1_41.cgi seemed to run ok so then I clicked on Publish All. When I click "View Website" none of the images are visible, and the links seem to refer to ArtMan1 pages. When I looked for the images I found a directory called v141_images, which I think has the old ones in, whilst the directory images has no updated content. Do I have to change some additional settings before I can preview the new version of the site?

Regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,

That depends on how your original templates were setup -- if they're using the default image directories, everything *should* have moved over... but if you had images external to Article Manager with hardcoded links, you'll need to change those manually.

If you'd like, drop an email to support@interactivetools.com with login information for your site, and we can take a look and see what's happening there.
