Category Index to list Sub Cats not Arts

I don't know if it's tiredness or what but I can't seem to figure out how to get the list of sub categories on my category Index pages. Using AM 2.0 for the first time. See [edit: removed] is showing the list of actual articles. But I want each cat index just to show its list of Sub Categories. I'm sure it's simple... but please explain! Tks.

Hi there! Take a look at this tutorial I wrote: http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=52494#52494 It should do what you're looking for. :) Donna

Thanks for the post Donna but not sure it's the same as I am looking for. You say ... "have the top level categories show up on the left hand menu" and "the second level categories show up in the center column" But I dont actually want the list of either first or second level categories together - I just want to have Cat 1 Sub Cat Sub Sub Cat 1 Sub Sub Cat 2 Sub Sub Cat 3 Where I can list all the Sub Sub categories as a menu. Like headlines but not linking to the articles, like the index page but again not linking to the articles within those categories just linking listing and linking the actual categories themselves. For example. [edit: removed] On clicking any of these articles eg. the Thermal Printers link (WIP with the template design) then I want to list the different types of Printers (which are categories) as a menu on the right. Headlines show the articles but I want the categories only, so they can link to their own Index page. So, [edit: removed] should list not all the articles in all the categories but the list of categories themselves. You'll notice the right hand headlines menu here is almost there - but it repeats the category name when there is more than one article in it! By the way, you'll notice the is AM 1.0 I had to revert as this is such an urgent job I had to stick with what I was more familiar with. Thanks for the help!

Hi Eliza Thanks for the update! With Article Manager 1, the only way I think you'll be able to get this going is with hard coding links onto your page. With Article Manager 2 there will be quite a few ways to get your category list setup. Of course, there is a few other things that you'll need to get used to in the new system as well. I am not sure if you wanted to give it a go in Article Manager 2 or if you just wanted to hardcode. Either way will work so let me know which one you like and I'll go into more detail for you . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Thanks Ross. I can take care of the hardcoding but can you go through the AM2.0 method(s) of doing it please? I know I'll need it again. Cheers.

Hi Eliza Thanks for getting back to me! In Article Manager 2, what I would do is create a new publish rule for the special category list you are setting up and tell it exactly what categories you need to have in the list. This way will give you complete control over what gets published and will create a separate file for you to include where ever it's needed. Does that make sense? Let me know when you are ready to get going so I can go over this in more detail if need be . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
