Are comments and ratings supported?

Hi! We are planning a new Internet-based local newspaper. To make this newspaper as good and popular as possible we need a good CMS and some functionality. Is it possible in Article Manager 2 to let users comment on articles and maybe rate them? Regards, Børre

Article Manager 2 is an exceptional CMS. In fact, I haven't seen some of the features in Artman2 in any other CMSs on the market. And the new Field Editor and Publish Rules make it one of the most powerful and customizable CMSs out there. It doesn't include comments or ratings out of the box, but I know many users have used free or 3rd party comments and ratings script and added them to their Article Managers. Basically you could use any comments and ratings scripts you wanted. So, no built in support, but we can certainly help you get your site customized and give you some suggestions on comments or ratings scripts you might want to use. If anyone else wants to recommend a comments or ratings script or let us know what you're using please feel free to jump in on this thread! :) Hope that helps. Anyone have any leads on a third party comment script that will work with articles that have an .shtml extention?

I have a question (comment?) on a comments script for AM 2.0. We haven't upgraded to AM 2.0 yet --- and I was hoping that it would have some sort of built-in comments functionality. I gather from the other postings that it doesn't. At one time we used a free comments script that allowed folks to post comments right at the end of an article: see, for example, the comments at the bottom of the article at http://www.poico.com/artman/publish/article_16.php But this free script was clunky, and to find spam-eque comments we had to trawl through every article every day. And when we found the unwanted comments, we'd delete them one by one. As the spam content increased, we thought we had to find a better solution. We then installed GoForum from Amscripts: http://www.amscripts.net/amaddons/#goforum This allows visitors to post comments, but in a linked forum. Going back to the poi article (above), users would simply click the "Discuss this story" link at the top of the article. The GoForum works -- technically -- very well. We've just discovered that while visitors are happy to add a comment at the bottom of an article, they are apparently reluctant to click a link that takes them to a separate forum. We have not had a single comment posted on the forum as a result of someone clicking the "Discuss this story" link. I would love some way of going back to having comments at the bottom of the article itself, but with a relatively easy way for me (as administrator) to find and remove spam comments each day. With WordPress, we use something called Akismet Spam: it automatically identifies comments that are likely to be spam, and does not let them get posted until we've approved them. Otherwise, they're deleted after 15 days. It's very elegant, and works very well. Any suggestions or assistance? Many thanks! Craig W. Walsh Lucies Farm Ltd. Yes, we currently use AM1 and are about to upgrade to AM2. We use GoForum on AM1, but (as I mentioned above) while the script works fine, we've discovered that visitors to our five AM websites just don't use the link to the forum. With the comment script we used earlier, we had lots of comments --- but then started to get lots of spam comments. As we get ready to move to AM2, I was just checkin' to see if there was an updated version of the comment script available for AM2. Craig W. Walsh Lucies Farm Ltd. Just re-visiting this. We are now on AM2. Any good comments script and/or ratings facility for AM2? Craig W. Walsh Lucies Farm Ltd. Home of Scottish | Kobe Beef and Kurobuta Pork http://www.luciesfarm.com http://www.hmdp.net

Hi Donna, Before we attempt to include a comments facility on our website can you inform us whether you have an example of the comments script you have installed - the one your priority consulting provides? Can we see what your script works like on a working site?

Hi Donna I'm very tempted by the priority consultancy offer. Just wanted to check though, is there any way that my PHPBB board could be integrated with it so that although comments can easily be made at the bottom of the article they will also appear in a Comments forum? Thanks Paul

Hi Paul, Hmm, I'm not sure -- I don't think we have an add-on like that right now, but contact the consulting department directly and they might be able to come up with something for you... :) Donna
