Guys,

UPDATE: 2.01 version now supports category mapping.

After a long wait we've now released an updated GoForum 2 for use with AM 2.

Supported boards are as follows: phpBB 2.0.+ (NOTE: 2.0.22 now supported in 2.01), IPB 2.+, and VB 3.5+.

Feel free to ask any questions regarding functionality before purchasing.

Hello Michael

Great Job!

Is there an upgrade price for existing users or a flat fee for the new version?

Many thanks

Simon

Hi M.
Is it possible to have some screen shots or something to see how it's in the admin - and some more words on how it work?

Description can be found here --> http://amscripts.net/amaddons/#goforum

There's a config file, but that's just giving the basic info of where the forum url is, un, and pw and your board type. So no real admin stuff.

Hi klausre

We had the original GoForum 1 and have just installed the GF2. Essentially there is no admin intervention required once the files are uploaded and you've amended your page templates to add the discussion link.

You need to add the location URL of your forum and login details to the config file then upload it to the AM2 directory on your server. Then just add a link to your article page templates. On my pages this says 'Dicuss this article'

That links to the GF2 script which in turn creates a new discussion page on your forum with the title and summary of the article and a URL link to the original article.

Visitors to your site can then post messages in your forum and discuss the contents of the article with other users.

For my site it provides a valuable conduit between the magazine section and the forum as we have a lot of users who only ever seem to use the forum so they miss a lot of the magazine articles. Once an article is published I click the 'discuss this article link' myself to automatically kick off the discussion in our forum.

Mike at AM Scripts is working on an update that maps articles to certain forum topics (ie link the AM2 categories to specific sections or topics in your forum)

I'd suggest waiting for that update.

Hi.

This is also what my users do. So I think this is a good addon.

On my site www.modellflynytt.no I have to do all this job manually, and put the url for the forumpost in a discuss field.

Mike4172: Is there any way to have AM2 pull the last 5 post form the forum and display it?

Klausre,

Yes there are mods out there that allow you to pull that last XX posts and display them on your site. However, GoForum does not have that capability.

I just wanted to add a recommendation for this add-on. We installed the latest version (2.1) that includes category mapping (direct certain articles to specific categories in the forum)

We noticed an instant increse in traffic to our AM2 content. Obviously it's catching users who only ever access our forum and attracts them to our magazine section

Brilliant!

Please could someone explain what GoForum will do, there are no screenshots or full explanation at AMScripts but it does sound useful for me. We use vB3.7.

Thanks,
Mickey

As far as I know goforum was never updated for vB 3.7.

What it does is allow you to place a "discuss" button at the end of any article on AM2 which can be clicked to open a discussion on vBulletin (and a few other message boards).
