Can engines search this text. . . ?

Hey all, I'm currently using a little FAQ I picked up somewhere which uses code like this: <---- Question---> <option value="Call or email for further information!">Don't see your question here?</option> To display this: "Don't see your question here?" <-- in the drop down box "Call or email for further info" <-- in the big box underneath My question is: I know search engines can pick up the words _between_ the html tags (Don't see your question here?), but, can they pick up the "answers" to the questions, which are inside the tags? I didn't know if this was a question for the HTML forum, or the search engine forum, so if it should be redirected, just let me know! Thanks muchly, Sarah sarah.rainsberger@mostly-math.com

Hi Sara Thanks for posting and welcome to the board! This would be the best forum here for you question so we can just continue from here. As I understand them, I don’t think search engines will be able to pick up the “answers” to your questions. I am not 100% sure though so I’ll see if I can track something down for you. Perhaps someone else would be able to shed some light on this for use. It would great to hear from you . In the meantime Sara, just let me know if you have anymore questions (or find a definite answer ). ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Like Ross, I don't believe so - but it is an unusual question, so I haven't read anything specific to say either way. In the absence of anything firm, the quickest way to deal with the problem would be to put something unusual in the "hidden" part (like "pink wombat") and then use Google to search your site after it has had time to pick up and display your new content. You can search your site with the following query: site:yoursite.com "pink wombat" (with or without quotation marks) _____ Steve

Hi everyone - First post :) I do search for a living and if the se's crawl the faqs it will be new to me. Why not put a text site map at the top of the page that leads to the same faqs??? This way you get to keep your drop down boxes AND get your faqs crawled. Search engines love faqs and anything interesting or relevant to your website. Any search questions (within reason) I'll be happy to help. David http://Top Rank Internet Solutions
