Any experience with lunarpages.com for Listings Manager? Can't Post

I am interested in buying the Listings Manager package to build a Real Estate listing website. I am planning to use godaddy.com for the domain registration and lunarpages.com for the web hosting. Does anybody out there have any experience with using lunarpages.com? That is, does it have all the system requirements for Listings Manager? I tried writing them to find out but haven't received a response yet. And in the evnt that somebody out there knows it doesn't, does anybody have any suggestions for a good we hosting site?

Hi suzetter,

Thanks for the post! Smile

If you're not sure that lunarpages.com will be able to host Listings Manager and you can direct me to the package you're interested in I can have a look at the specifications for you to see if it seems like it will work.

Also, there is actually another thread on our forum where some people were discussing lunarpages.com as a host. You can a look at that here:

http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=27390#27390

If you're looking for some suggestions on hosting providers and what people have used in the past you may want to take a look at this thread as well:

http://www.interactivetools.com/iforum/General_C1/General_F1/Suggestions%3A_Looking_for_a_great_hosting_provider_P4506/

With these two resources you should be able to get quite a bit of information.

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to let me know! Smile

We're running LM on Lunar and highly recommend it. Solid.

I'm running an Article Manager site on lunarpages, but recently had the search.cgi function shut down because of high cpu usage. The site has less than three hundred articles and is a straightforward AM installation with no additional scripts. This is a real problem because even if you remove the site search box, the "more articles/headlines" link at the bottom will give an internal server error. So far I've not been able to solve the problem, and they want me to move up to an enterprise account (at five times the monthly cost). Have any of you using lunarpages had this cpu usage issue?

Hi xpat,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the discussion forum.

Article Manager doesn't use very many server resources, and certainly not very much if you are running with less than 300 articles.

Perhaps if I log in to the server and run a couple test scripts we can determine what the cause of this may be? All I need to do that is for you to send me an email. Once I have run some test I'll be able to get to the bottom of this for you.

Thanks xpat Smile

Did you find the source of this problem? We are running multiple sites on Lunar Pages servers (basic plan, a super deal) using AM with nary a hiccup. Great host and a good place to use this great product.

No I wasn't able to solve the problem, so I switched to another company for that site. I still have a lunar account, but not running AM on it.

Hi Xpat, we are experiencing the same problems running Article Manager with Host Gator, their suggestion has been to move to a dedicated or semi dedicated account which is approximately 3x the price.

We looked at the the hosting companies that are on the Interactive Tools site and Dream Host seems like is having LOTS of problems right now and while Gosmar looks good they are basically the same price as a semi-dedicated plan at Host Gator and I am not sure if I can host multiple domains with them.

Could you please let me know who you are using, if you are hosting more than one domain and what your experience has been so far.

Thanks Xpat.

Re: [jdog75] Any experience with lunarpages.com for Listings Manager? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

I went with reliablehosting.com which is certainly more expensive than lunar and I think host gator. But before I choose them I shared all the emails between me and lunar support about the server strain, and they said they could accomodate it.

I use AM as the backbone for a simple membership site, so for me the extra cost was worth it. The other thing I did was remove the search box. I haven't had any problems since.

I just reread my presales email with Reliable, and noticed that I told them I read about them on the Interactive Tools forum because someone else was already using them for running AM.

Hope this helps.

Hi James,

Just a vote of confidence for Dreamhost -- I host a few non work-related sites on Dreamhost myself, and even though they've been having some problems with their data center lately, I've only noticed my sites being down once -- for about 20 minutes. Overall, I'd say that's not bad at all. :)

The thing to remember when reading their status blog is that they have a TON of servers. So, even if one goes down for a few minutes, it's unlikely that it's the one you're actually hosted on... and even if it is, it's generally just for a few minutes. Very few of their updates affect everybody.

So, while they have been having some issues with their data center, they've been doing a pretty good job of keeping the servers up. I'm a pretty advanced user, and I barely noticed the downtime. And having worked in the web industry for 10 years (including a couple of stints at various hosting providers) ... none of their problems are especially unusual. It may look chaotic from the outside, but... well, to be honest, keeping a fleet of servers up and running IS pretty chaotic under the best of circumstances. :)

Hi Donna,

I'm looking to change hosts. So was wondering if you are still happy with Dreamhost?

Hi Croydon

We are definitely still liking Dreamhost. They are great! We also have had good experiences with Server Beach as well though so that's another one you can have a look at. Check out our hosting page for some more details:
