hi we are using 2 servers to host our one site. I wanted to know how could we use the search engine to index this type of site? could we install the search on both servers and copy over one of the search files or something to this effect? Webmaster http://news.carjunky.com

Hi carminejg3, Thanks for posting. Search Engine is going to be able to search any files that are on the website that it's installed on, but I've not come across a site yet that is split on two servers so I'm not really sure how Search Engine would work in this case. Do all the pages run from one domain? What I'm thinking is that Search Engine will only be able to access the files on the server that it's installed on. Do all the pages run from one domain? What I was looking to try out, was installing the search engine on both servers. Then have it create an index on one server. Then copy those data files to the second server, and have it index the second server. (Having the search actaully be stored and used from the second server) So kinda of merging the two servers together. (unless when you index, it rewrites the config files so that the second server would actully over write the information from the first server) Webmaster http://news.carjunky.com

Hi Carmine. Thanks for the update! Like Cliff, I haven’t seen our Search Engine running on a site that’s split across two servers. The only thing that I can see been over written though is the report data that Search Engine saves each time someone runs a search. Other than that though, you should be ok from a data point of view. I really think you are going to still run into the fact that Search Engine is designed to search through files that are on the same server it’s installed to. So even though you could have Search Engine installed on both servers, if the files on each search are not mirror copies of each other, Search Engine will return different results. I actually think the best thing to do would be setup a test to see if it’s something that can be done. We only have the one server in our office so I don’t think I can test it out. If you wanted to go ahead and then post back the results, that would be really great! I look forward to hearing from you . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
