Hi, is it possible to exclude certain file types from being returned in the search results? Also, is it possible to restrict the areas in which it searches to particular directories? Thanks very much Terry Articles about information & communication technology http://www.terry-freedman.org.uk

Hi Terry, Thanks for posting! Rather than having Search Engine ignore certain file extensions you're actually able to tell Search Engine which file types it should be able to look through. You can find the list of accepted file extensions in the "Setup Options" under the "Search Restrictions" subheading. To prevent Search Engine from looking in certain directories you can use the "Ignore List" feature of Search Engine. Here you can enter entire file paths to folders that shouldn't be looked through. For example, if you had a /test/ folder on your server that you wouldn't like people to be able to look through you can just add something like this in the "File prefixes and file paths to ignore" in the "Ignore List": /httpdocs/test/ You'd just want to modify this to match the actual path on your server. Another way to do this is using the "Category Editor". If you click "files" for one of your categories you can actually see a list of all of the files that the Search Engine will look through. If you'd like to ignore a file or folder you can just click "ignore this dir" under the "Action" heading. I hope this helps and if you have any questions about setting this up, just let me know!
