Untitled results when document searching

Hi I have added (doc) to the Search Restrictions "Default Text Files" in Set Up Options and it searches the Word documents I have nicely. Problem is that all the results come back with "Untitled" as the title. Is this problem SE not reading the individual document titles? Anyone else come across this? Peace

Hi Galaxy, Thanks for your post. :) The problem is that Word files aren't text files. Search Engine is reading it as though it were a text file, and so it may be searching the content, but there's no "title" tag such as what would be in HTML. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. :) Donna

Thanks Donna Makes sense. I suppose I could change the results template so that it puts the actual file name where the title currently is (or, as in this case the untitle ) I can't give this category (which searches only Word docs) a different results template (like you can do in AM)? Would be nice. Peace

Hi Galaxy, You can indeed use a different template! All you need to do is add a hidden field in your search query like this: <input type="hidden" name="skin" value="template_filename.html"> ...and voila! You could use a different template for that category. Let me know if this works for you. :) Donna

But what if I wanted to use another results template ONLY if the user selected to search in one specific category, how would I set this up? Peace

Hi Donna Can you please explain how I can use a different template to show results if users search in one specific category. I can't see how this could be done. If I use <input type="hidden" name="skin" value="template_filename.html"> as you suggest, wouldn't it use that template even if the user selected another category to search? Peace

Hi Galaxy, Thanks for your post. :) Hmm... to have that value changed dynamically would take a little scripting that would change the value based on what category you had selected. I believe this would be possible to do with JavaScript, but not being a JavaScript programmer, I don't have the specific code that it would take to do this. However, you might want to take a look at something like that. :) I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. :) Donna
