Searchable Files ?

Hi, I haven't bought this yet as I am currently using the free atomz service on our web site, but would prefer to not have sponsorded links appearing. Tell me, can this search engine software be used to search pdf files, and other microsoft office content (powerpoint, word etc). Thanks Martin.

Hi Martin, Thanks for posting. Search Engine will be able to search through text-based files. So files like .html, .php, .asp, or any other text based file are fine. File formats like .pdf, .doc and .ppt files are not text based, so Search Engine is unable to get through those. I hope this helps Regards, Cliff Stefanuk - Customer Service Manager support@interactivetools.com

Cliff, That's a great shame, it doesn't do this. The free service I am using does search pdf's and if paid for would search more. It also allows you to wrap your site template around the results and perform either auto indexing or a manual one. I know it does produce sponsored links in the results now, (this was only introduced in October) rather than just their logo, but paying $50 to remove these and drop to an inferior search facility seems pointless. I think I'd even pay $100 for a decent search facility that covered these fpdf and microsoft files. Can you suggest any others that you know of? I'm using your page publisher software and this is really cool, so I am surprised your search software isn't as equally useful in this respect. Regards Martin

Cliff Thanks for the tips and links. I have to say that you guys and gals at Interactive tools certainly go the added mile into pleasing your customers even to the extent that you are happy to point me away from your software to something else. I doubt I'd find as much support as I have here. Just for info, I have tried a different approach on my site now and am using a google api key (requires Google login) and the free facilities from: http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/search/faq.html. This uses the results of the last google crawl of your site, which searches all microsoft documents (including powerpoint) and of course pdfs, but limits the search to your own url. The effect is similar to doing a google search but using the "site:" command in the search box within google. The php script refers back to their site for some processing but is editable and customisable and easily integrated into the look and feel of your web site. No banners/sponsored links either. The only thing they ask for is a link back to them. Hope I haven't done you out of some potential customers? Regards Martin.
