Really simple... how do I get it to work! Can't Post

Hi,
I've been updating my company's web site and the previous design (circa 2004) used this search function well... but I'm a graphical person, not a techie!
I've followed the instructions on how to install the right folders and everything but then the wheels fall off! When I attempt step 8 ("run the admin program /search/exec/admin.cgi with your Web Browser") all I get is a page of interesting text- nothing to config at all.

After some experimenting I found that if I changed all the ".cgi" extensions to ".pl" the search engine would behave well. I could log it, set it up and install the code on my templated site... but when used it didn't actually find anything. By this I mean I could put the name of the company in to the search engine and it would find no results!

What am I missing! Any help would be appreciated as I'm keen to get the search functionality back into the site!

Thanks.

Hi turtlemoht,

Thanks for posting!

You might want to check that all of your search directories are set up correctly under the Category Editor page. You might also want to verify that all of the file types and path & URL settings are set up correctly under "Setup Options". If you're still having trouble with this, try sending in a support request and we can take a look at this for you. You can do that here:

AHA! Thanks, using the 'files' listing as a guide I was able to get the 'Directory to Search' settings correct.

Everything's great now- but why did I have to rename all the *.cgi files *.pl?

Hi turtlemoht,

Thanks for the update!

Some servers, usually Windows-based ones, require Perl scripts to have this extension in order to execute which is likely why you had to make this change.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you need anything else. Smile
