Norwegian characters

The search in Article manager works fine with Norwegian characters (æ ø å Æ Ø Å) except for one thing: Search frases with any of these characters are case sensitive. No big deal, but I think most visitors use lower case when they do their searches, and they will not be returned any matches with words containing upper case of these characters. Will Search Engine be able to handle this issue? Regards Kjell

Hi Kano. Thanks for posting! On the default search query templates there is the option to have searches be case sensitive or case insensitive. Had you already tried this option? If the field was removed during the customization you can easily add it back in. Just copy this code:
<tr> <td><font class="maintext" size="2">Case </font></td> <td> <select name="case_sensitive"><option value="1">case sensitive</option><option value="0" selected="selected">case insensitive</option></select> </td> </tr> And paste it into your search_form.html template. Could you give this a shot and let me know how you make out? Just let me know if you would like any more details . If anyone else has success stories on working with Norwegian characters and Search Engine, both Kano and I would be very interested in hearing from you . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

I may have explained this unclear. If I read your reply correctly I understand that the case sensitive option is for Search Engine. Today I use the default search functionality in Article Manager, and the question is: Will I be able to solve the problem if I replace the AM search with a Search Engine license. I do not have a SE license today, so I am unfortunately not able to try your suggestion yet. Or did I misunderstand...? Regards Kjell

Hi Kjell, Thanks for posting. To configure Article Manager so the search recognizes Norwegian characters simply do the following. The config.ini file can be found in the /exec/ directory, the same directory that admin.cgi is within. Open up the config.ini file in a text editor of your choice and uncomment the "ignore_word_boundaries" value. So change this: #ignore_word_boundaries = 1 To this: ignore_word_boundaries = 1 Give that a try and let me know if that helps or you have any other questions. Hi and thanks for your reply! I have already tried this. It made Article Manager recognize Norwegian characters in searches, but only as case sensitive searches. (All the other searches with only English characters works fine). I guess I can live with the problem if there is no solution. On the other hand; I would gladly spend my money on a Search Engine license if that would solve the problem. Regards Kjell

Hi Kano. Thanks for the update! The text searching with Article Manager’s search engine and our stand alone Search Engine are both very similar so the case sensitive searches would have the same results. If you were still ok with the way it works now, that’s great. In the meantime, I am going to add a feature request to both products to see if we can increase the multi language support. Just let me know if you have anymore questions . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
