Multi-Site Searches Can't Post

Is it possible to modify the Search tool to do mult-site searches? Like if I had a list of 10 URL's to search?

Re: [KimBradshaw] Multi-Site Searches [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey Kim,

Thanks for posting.

Search Engine will only be able to search on the site that it's installed on, so it's not going to be able to search external URLS. If you wanted to do something like that, you would need to have Search Engine installed on each individual server.

I hope that helps explain, but if you need any more details just let me know Smile

Re: [Cliff] Multi-Site Searches [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Will it search

sub1.site.com
sub2.site.com
sub3.site.com

Or will this need three copies? Would be great if it could and so be limited to the one main domain.

If the answer is no, can you consider it please.

Thanks.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for posting!

If all of your sub domains are within the same root folder, for example:

webroot/sub1/
webroot/sub2/
webroot/sub3/

Then I think you should be able to get this working. On the server tab of Setup Options you would just put:

Base URL: www.site.com
Base DIR: /webroot

Then setup categories for each of your sub domains. When setting them up you would use something like this for the URL and DIRs

Sub domain 1:

URL: sub1.site.com
DIR: /webroot/sub1

Sub domain 2:

URL: sub2.site.com
DIR: /webroot/sub2

Sub domain 3:

URL: sub3.site.com
DIR: /webroot/sub3

Could I get you to give this a shot and let me know how it turns out? It isn’t something that I can test easily myself, so I am not 100% sure it will work. If it doesn’t I think you’ll need to purchase a new license for each of your sub domains.

We do offer volume discounts though, so depending on how many sub domains you have, you could qualify for the 5 pack.

Just keep me up to date though. I am really interested to see if this works Smile.
