Keyword Weights seem to have no effect?

I am using the basic search form and trying to apply keyword weights to the search results. They seem to have no effect. I place a keyword weight of 10 in page title and 0 or 1 in all others, yet the word in the document body continue to show up first. This is just one example. I have tried various combinations just to see if any combination of keyword weights makes any difference and they don't seem to. Am I wrong? Thank you

Hi Doug, Can you post us your settings that you've applied in the Keyword Weights section of the Setup Options? Also, if you can include a sample of some of the HTML from a page that continues to show up first that would be great. Thanks. Sure, I'll do even better. See http://www.japan-101.com/temp.htm for an example of what I mean. This is the basic search form with a few details.

Hi Doug, Thanks for passing along those details! I've taken a look at your site and one thing I'd suggest changing is the "Max Search Results" in Search Engine's admin program. By default the maximum amount is set to 200. What could be happening is that Search Engine is hitting 200 results and returning those before it gets into the pages that have "Tokyo" in the title. For example, if you type in "Tokyo" on the page you linked me to you get 200 results after searching through 202 pages. If you search for "Hotels" you'll find 19 results after searching 2108. This means that when you're searching for Tokyo, the program is hitting 200 results and not searching through the remaining 1800+ pages on your site. I'd suggest increasing this so you'll be certain that Search Engine will look through all of the files on your site, every time. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, just let me know! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Interesting Mike - I hadn't noticed that before. I did change the max results to 3000 so any search now searches all 2108 pages and it did improve the results - but - the first two listings (and a few thereafter) still do not have Tokyo in the title even though my title weight is 10 and my body weight is 1. This is better though. Now here's something good that I don't understand. In my site I actually use a modified version of the advanced form which looks like this: (viewable at home page of japan-101.com) <option value="title, body" selected>Max Results</option> <option value="title">Most Accurate</option> I changed the title weight to 1000 and the body weight is 1. When using the search form with the above options "title, body" and these weights, the results are right on. I don't entirely understand it but it's working just as I want it to with the search forms on my site.
