Installation write problem

Hi support,
a customer asked us to install the IT search engine we had one left so we sayed what the heck lets install.
but the cgi-bin will let me run scripts but we can't write in the cgi directory. the other thing is that the Search Engine application won't let me point a diffrent directory in witch i do have write preflidges.
anny one got a sollution?
