Exclude a section of a page

Search Engine works well, except for one problem. I have implemented it on a small blogging website. On each page, however, the titles of the most recent entries are found in the navigation bar. If someone types a word which happens to be in a title, one gets not only the relevant article, but all the pages which contain it in the navigation bar. I know that the issue was already raised one or two years ago on this forum. But has the problem been solved in the meantime, or will it be solved soon? if not, I am afraid I will have to give up using Search Engine on the website: it just makes no sense to get ten results when only one is relevant. On search engines such as Pico Search, it is possible to exclude part of a text with specific tags. This would be very easy: I could just insert the tags at the beginning and the end of the navigation bar, problem would then be solved. I hope to geat a positive reply! Thank you!

Hi Tribulatio, Thanks for the post! Although there isn't a specific tag that will enable you to skip portions of your pages there may be a way you can get around this. In order to recommend my solution I may just need a little bit more information about the way you are adding the headlines to the menu on your page. What you can do is take the code that you are currently using to add the headlines to the left hand side of your page and paste it into a new file on your server. You can then use a Server Side Include (SSI) to include these headlines on each of your pages. You can then exclude this file in Search Engine's admin program. This means when visitors look at your site it won't look any different, but when Search Engine is run it will look at the static pages on your server and not the headlines. If you could provide me with a little bit more information about the way you are adding the list of titles to your page I should be able to go into a little bit more detail about how you can go about setting this up. I look forward to hearing from you! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Many thanks! This is a good trick indeed, I see more or less what you have in mind - but this is a small website produced with Blogger (but published on my own domain name instead of a blogspot.com address), so I doubt that it could work. It would be a different story if I would use other tools (as I mentioned on another post, I would have used News Manager, if only it had provided the possibility to limit the number of stories per page, and then have follow up title pages). Anyway, it shows that there are turnarounds, and certainly you reply will be useful for other users. I do still hope that a skipping feature with tags will be implemented in a future release of Search Engine.

I've been dealing with a similar problem. Maybe this should be included in the next upgrade of SEARCH ENGINE, it would make a world of difference. If only I could use a tag to exclude text or links from the search engine view, without having to make SSI's everytime I need something out. HINT HINT. Also a special function which would allow a visitor find a page by using a keyword or code. Example: Using number > STRING: 998208 takes you to page ../example/folder/custom_name1.html Using keyword(s) > STRING: broken arrow takes you to page ../example/folder/custom_name2.html
