Changing The Report Settings Can't Post

Hiya,

Was just wondering, is there a way to change the reports in Search Engine? I'd like to have one which just returns all queries, (I'm not convinced that just because someone got a document returned from their search that it actually delivered what they wanted) success or failure. I'd also like it to be selected by default. I've had a try with _report_menus.html : I tried adding an extra option to the select ie

<option value="last_100,last_not_found_100" $statistics_top_100_selected$ selected>Last 100 queries</option>

But alas, I have no idea what the red bit does (can't find it mentioned on your site) although if I was to guess I'd say it might be something to do with whether it gets selected automatically or not. I added the (green) select comment to try and force the issue, but made no difference. Any thoughts?

By the way, I am also using AM, which is very good indeed, but I can't help feeling that it would be even better if you offered a version that had the Search Engine product built in. I know it has a (basic) search, but it wasn't really enough for my project. I've ended up with three search engines on my site, the AM one, SE and another product that offers more advanced functionality (fuzzy/synonym etc and very powerful boolean type searches) but alas doesn't record what people are asking for in their search requests. What I really needed was something to manage the creation of docs and also their retrieval (with hits highlighted) by a wide audience with differing needs, and to then use feedback (be it hidden or explicit) from search requests to refine the content and generally plug knowledge gaps in AM. This isn't a complaint though, just a tip! I did get quotes from comapnies with software that does all this, but they are literally a thousand times more expensive than yours!

PS. Whilst I am here, is there any way to add a spell checker to AM? I notice you have a check spelling button on this page.

Re: [MatRay] Changing The Report Settings [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum.

You certainly have some great ideas, but unfortunately controlling the reports is currently not within the scope of Search Engines functions.

If you want to have a certain option from the list selected, try this:

Code
<option value="last_100" $statistics_last_100_selected$ selected="selected">Last 100 successful queries</option>

The '$statistics_top_100_selected$' is a placeholder that is specific to Search Engine and tells the program what to do with this option.

The forum software that we are using is actually produced by a company called Gossamer Threads, so it's separate from our products.

What I will do add your suggestion into our feature requests, because I think that all of our users could benefit from the extra searching and reporting features, plus the spell checker that you are looking for.

Thanks for posting Smile
