Advanced Search Results Customization? Can't Post

I have been busy setting up subdirectories with separately searchable categories, making custom templates for each category. (These subdirectories are aliased to separate domain names even though they live on the same root.) Everything is working fine for basic search. There is a basic search box on the home page, etc. The search results are then displayed on the custom template results page. However, at the bottom of that page is a link for "Advanced Search", which I think is useful to have in that location. I have resorted to using a generic search form and search results page for Advanced Search because I cannot determine a way to set up a custom template for this function and store it for each separate category. It is fine this way, but ideally it would be more seamless to have both the basic search results and the advanced search results on similar templates, i.e. with the same banners, etc. Is this possible? Here's the link to one of the categories to give a good example:

Thanks much for your help! I love this product. Ethan

Hi Ethan.

Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!

Customizing the advanced search page is actually done by taking the regular search fields and putting them onto a custom page. So basically, you would just need to create a new page for the different search pages you wanted to have. Then just link to the appropriate search page from there.

Does that sound like it would work? Let me know if you would like anymore details on this Smile.

Re: [ross] Advanced Search Results Customization? [In reply to] Can't Post

Ross: I actually tried that, and it made a server error. The "advanced search" link (at bottom of search_results_cat3.html) is: $_cgisearchurl$ --and I tried replacing that link with something like search_form_test.html (Advanced Search code with my banner, etc.) and got the error. I must be missing something here, since I had no problem coding the "form method get" snippet in the web page (where this all starts) to get the results to show on the custom form.

Sorry to be confused here...I am not a programmer....just a fairly savvy webmaster. Learning every day. I guess the main question then is how to get to a custom advanced search form from a basic search result form, and then how to tell that custom advanced search form to display the results on the search_results_cat3.html form. Thanks, Ethan

Ross: I got it! I think my link to the custom Advanced form was bad. This makes my day! Both Basic and Advanced Search have custom pages for entry and output. Now I can build out the other categories....

Re: [ross] Advanced Search Results Customization? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ross: Actually I have one little glitch. When an Advanced Search is done (from the link on the bottom of the custom search results page -after doing a basic search from the home page) the first page of results is perfect....it uses the custom results template. But when "NEXT" is clicked to bring up the second and subsequent pages of results, it resolves to my generic template. Then if "PREV" is clicked, that generic template remains active. Hmmmm...cannot find the code that controls that. Can you help. Here is the link:
