upload images to server / duplicate files Can't Post

I'm applying for the first time PML tags to a site for a client to update. I have a few queries on what he can and can't do as I'm not getting round it:

IMAGES. I'd like the client to be able to:
1. Change an existing image an upload it from a local hard drive to the server. Possible? I'm just finding with 'image_select' the option of a url link.
2. Images are links. Is it possible to add a link to an image in 'UPDATE' mode? How? Or the only option is doing it via html mode?

FILES. Is it possible to duplicate and rename a file? Or this needs to be done locally and then uploaded via ftp and then 'add page'?

This is it by now. Looking forward to your reply! Thanks in advance.

Re: [isoler] upload images to server / duplicate files [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi isoler,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the discussion forum!

There is an attribute that you can use in the image_select PML tag that will give your users the ability to upload images from their computer. Just add allowupload="yes" to the PML tag and you will be able to do that.

If that is set to "yes", users are allowed to upload files to the server for selection from the image_select and file_select pulldowns. If it's set to "no" (the default setting), users are not allowed to upload files.

If you are using the image_select PML tag, there won't be a way to add a link to that image from the 'update' page. If you were to edit the HTML directly you could do that.

As for duplicating and renaming a file, you'll need to do that outside of Page Publisher. Once you've created and uploaded the pages that you want to edit with Page Publisher, you just need to add them to the system for editing.

I hope that helps explain, but post back if you have any other questions Smile

Re: [isoler] upload images to server / duplicate files [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi isoler,

I just realized that I messed up on my first post! Blush

Here is a sample of what that code for adding a link to an uploaded image with the image_select PML tag would look like:

Code
<!-- publish type="image_select" allowupload="yes" uploaddir="" allowlink="yes" allowremove="yes" name="Image 1"-->
<!-- /publish -->

So what this does is allows your users to set the URL that the images links to. I can't belive I missed that!

Re: [Cliff] upload images to server / duplicate files [In reply to] Can't Post

Great, thanks so much for your help! Although, I think I'll need Article Manager in the end as my client will need to add pages and articles. Could you let me know if I will need both (PP & AM)? Or does AM do PP's job already?
In case of swaping to AM is it possible then to uninstall PP from that server and use it somewhere else?
Many thanks again.

Hi isoler.

Thanks for the update!

From the sounds of it, you might be able to stick with just Article Manager. It’s going to let you add all your different pages. There are also ways that you can set things up to let you edit single pages on your site similar to Page Publisher. Of course, if you find that it would end up being easier to use Page Publisher on some pages and Article Manager on others, you can always grab a copy later on. Both programs will work just fine on the same server as one another.

Let me know if you need anymore details Smile.

Re: [ross] upload images to server / duplicate files [In reply to] Can't Post

I wonder if you can help me out with this before purchasing AM as I'm not sure if it will work for what I want it. I basically have an events listing, classified per month as well as a results page. See here: http://www.rogersoler.com/www/s_b_r/events.html (just Feb working by now) and http://www.rogersoler.com/www/s_b_r/results.html. I want my client to be able to add events/results to these lists. Is there any way of doing so with PP or AM? I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Re: [isoler] upload images to server / duplicate files [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi isoler,

Thanks for posting those examples.

From what I can see, both Article Manager and Page Publisher could handle updating those sections.

If you were to use Page Publisher, you would be just pointing Page Publisher to the pages that you want it to update, and the defining what you want the users to update.

In Article Manager, these would be different categories, and each event in the category would be a separate article.

So it's possible to do this with both from what I can see. I'm sure you've seen that Article Manager is also on sale, so if you need to get a license you will want to make sure that you place your order before Feb 22nd so you can save $30. If you like to see if it's going to work for you, we have a 90-day money-back guarantee so there's no risk in testing it out.

If you need any more details just let me know Smile
