how to access my cgi-bin

I'm trying to install my page publisher software, in which I have to call up the pp.cgi script from my cgi-bin in a web browser. However my cgi-bin lies above my web root directory. Is it possible to call something to a browser that is above the web root? I always thought you couldn't do that. I've tried opening the script in a folder stored beneath the web root, but apparently our webhosts say any cgi/perl MUST be in this higher level directory. Help!

Hi PhilSly, Thanks for the post! While generally all of your website's files would need to be within the webroot, some servers do have the /cgi-bin/ in a directory above the root. With the way these servers are set up you'll just access the /cgi-bin/ as if it were in your webroot. This means to access Page Publisher's pp.cgi script you'd use a URL that looks like this: http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/pp/pp.cgi Also, your hosting company should be able to provide you with some more details about how to access your /cgi-bin/ through a web browser. We also offer a complimentary installation for each license of our software so if you'd like me to get onto the server and install this for you then you'll just want to fill out an Installation Request here: https://www.interactivetools.com/support/free_installation.cgi I hope this helps and if you have any other questions or comments, just let me know! Thanks for the help, Mike. Page Publisher is now up and running on my site. I've just changed web hosts and have no experience of having my cgi-bin outside my web root. I was actually doing what you said, but it turns out my software wasn't working because my File Permissions were all wrong in the directories. Anyway, thanks again. This probably won't be the last you hear off me, so be warned!
