Problems with wysiwyg Can't Post

I have two problems with the wysiwyg

1- Unwanted <br> tags are inserted like mad throughout the page When I tried to delete them out of the edit html page I then had a ton of broken br tags.

2- I'm using IE 6.02 and I do not see the wysiwyg text editor. I know the tags are correct because on other people's machines it works. Is there something I need to activate/change in IE?

Thank you

JEanne

Hi Jeanne,

Thanks for the post! :)

1. When entering content into text boxes, do you have Text or HTML selected (there's an option on the top right above each text box to choose one or the other)? Here's how they work -

With "Text" selected, every time you hit the "Enter/Return" key in a text box the return character will be replaced with a <br> tag in the published page. This is done so your content stays properly formatted when published. For example, if you're breaking up paragraphs in the text box by hitting the "enter/return" key, those paragraphs will still appear properly broken up when published.

With "HTML" selected the return characters are not replaced with a <br> tag. The benefit of this option is people can enter HTML and format their HTML with return characters without having to worry about the return characters becoming <br> tags when published.

It looks like some users may be entering content in using "Text" mode and this is what's creating the <br> tags. If you're worried about the <br> tags you might want to use WYSIWYG editor instead for all of your text boxes, or when using a regular text box enter in your content using HTML mode.

2. When viewing htmlArea from our website, does it show up properly in the example? You can view the example here:

http://www.interactivetools.com/products/htmlarea/

htmlArea relies on JavaScript. It could be that JavaScript is disabled in your browser. From your browser menu go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security Tab -> Custom Level -> and scroll down until you read "Active Scripting". You'll want to make sure that "Active Scripting" is enabled. Once done, click OK.

I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions please feel free to let me know! :)

Re: [Luke] Problems with wysiwyg [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi again,

I just realized that I can see the html editor on my other site that uses PP. So, now I know its something to do with this site. I have tried copying and pasting the pp tag exactly and it still doesn't work so I am afraid its either the server or the installation of Page Publisher. Could it be the server? If not, what files should I check for or replace for the editor? Or any other ideas what it could be? It seems the wysiwyg tags are treated as text format. On some pages the PP tag is even visable on the update page!Crazy

Thank you

Re: [jeanne] Problems with wysiwyg [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Jeanne!

In that case, it's usually a problem with Page Publisher being able to find the htmlarea directory. So, you'll want to make sure that the Page Publisher images directory has the htmlarea directory inside it -- you may want to re-upload it to make sure it's been uploaded correctly as well.

Also, make sure that the directories are executable or Page Publisher won't be able to access them.

If you're still having trouble, the best bet is to fill out a support request with your FTP information and we can pop in and see why it's not showing up. :) You can fill this out here:

I hope this helps. :)
