Pre-installation problem ! Can't Post

I have everything uploaded to a Windows NT server.
/cgi-bin/pp/...
My ISP has set permissions as requested.
If I try pp.cgi - it asks me where I want to download it !
I renamed it to pp.pl (and data/setup.dat.pl) and tried again.
This time it "starts ok" but can't get past the "Warning: Server too busy!" message (all graphics display OK). If I click the X to log-off, it repeats the too busy message. I don't think it is too busy (6 hours later!)

Any ideas ???

Hi DR, based on the error message you're receiving I'm guessing you're installing Page Publisher on a Windows server.

The "Server Too Busy Error" occurs on Windows Servers when permissions have been incorrectly set.

Although permissions may be have been set, they may be set to the the wrong user.

You'll want to make sure that the /pp/ directory and all of the directories within it are given full permissions (write, erase, execute, modify, etc) to the user that Perl is running as (it's important that these permissions are set to the Perl user). Since you're on a windows server you may have to ask your server administrator to do this for you.

Also, when permissions are not properly set the program has a tendency to create filelocks. If a filelock has been created you'll want to remove the filelock.lock file from the programs /data/ directory.

Let me know if this helps. :)

Re: [Luke] Pre-installation problem ! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've had the domain moved to a UNIX box - took 6 days !!
Everything uploaded again, however, the ISP told me that scripts should be run from the \cgi-bin folder AND (my first question) should be renamed as xxx.pl instead of xxx.cgi - is this a problem ??

In installation instructions "Getting started" no.5 it says "make the following files and directories writable /pp/setup.dat.cgi - I assume that should be /data/setup.dat.cgi as that's where itgets unzipped to.

So, my setup is as follows:
/cgi-bin/pp/pp.pl
/cgi-bin/pp/data/setup.dat.pl etc.etc.
I get no response when running pp.pl and eventually get the 'Filelock' folder

My second question is - what permissions should the /cgi-bin folder have ?
Hope you can help

Re: [DR] Pre-installation problem ! [In reply to] Can't Post

- Renaming the software from xxx.cgi to xxx.pl is not a problem. If you install an update to Page Publisher later, just remember to do the rename again.

- You are correct about the location of the setup.dat.cgi file. It should be pp/data/setup.dat.cgi instead of pp/setup... However, don't rename that file; leave it as setup.dat.cgi

- The cgi-bin directory should have ISP recommended settings, most likely 755. You can verify with them.
