PDF uploads Can't Post

Hi,

I'm about to purchase Page Publisher. My client would like to be able to upload PDFs and create hyperlinks to them. Can they do this through the WYSIWIG interface in the same way that they would add images?

Thanks

Hi Retray.

Thanks for posting!

It is definitely possible to upload PDF files using Page Publish. It’s even just as easy as uploading images. You just have to select the file you want from you hard drive, or specify a url and then choose the text you want to use for the link and Page Publisher does the rest for you.

You’ll also be able to have several different files uploaded to the system so you can cycle through them if you like.

I hope you find this helpful. If you had anymore questions, feel free to get back in touch Smile.

I have the same question but I don't think that Ross got the jist of what the question was.

Yes it is easy to upload a PDF or image but if I then want to link to it from a WYSIWYG textarea, I have to press the link button. The link button just opens a form with two options: Type: and URL: there is no option to browse for the PDF that I just uploaded. My client needs to be able to browse to the PDF and not type in the URL.

This is waht I need to do and I think this is what the original question was.

Cheers

Hi Rockmill.

Thanks for the post and welcome to the board!

Having the editor tie into our file upload folder is actually something that is already on the featured request list. What I’ll do is add your name to the list of people already asking for it so the developers can see how many people are looking for it.

Does this help? Just let me know if you have any questions Smile.

Yep - add me to that list to.

I didn't realise PP wasn't able to do this until after I'd purchased and installed it Frown

Hi lmathers.

Thanks for posting!

I’ll add your name to the list right away Smile.

In the meantime, I have an idea you can try out if you like. Page Publisher does have a file upload option that lets you easily upload files to the server so you could use that to at least get the file online. Once it’s been uploaded, it will have a valid URL that you can use in the WYSIWYG.

So when someone wants to use the editor to create a link to one of your files, here’s what they would do:

1. Upload the file using one of the regular file upload boxes.
2. Use the WYSIWYG’s link tool to create a link to the location of your uploads folder.

All they need to remember what the name of the file they uploaded is. I can even show you how to have the path to your uploads folder appear right on the interface so that your users can just copy and paste it when needed.

Do you think that would work? Can I go into anymore detail for you?

Let me know Smile.

Hi Ross,

Thanks for your reply.

I thought I might be able to do that. I've read a few other posts as well about setting up an "uploads.html" page and allowing people to upload files using that page, but if you could go into more detail, that would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Lee

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the post! Smile

I'll outline the steps you can follow to set up a field that will allow users to upload files and then I'll offer some suggestions on how they can add links to these files in Page Publisher's WYSIWYG editor with their content.

First, on your .html page you'll want to add the PML (Publish Markup Language) tag for a file_select field. The code will look like this:

Code
<!-- publish type="file_select" allowupload="yes" uploaddir="" allowremove="yes" -->
<!-- /publish -->

This will allow your client to uploads their own file when they are modifying this page.

Then, once they've uploaded the file to the server they should be able to use the WYSIWYG editor's linking feature to add a link to the file they've uploaded. By default, the files will all be uploaded to the Upload Dir you have set in Page Publisher's Setup Options (by default this is /pp/uploads/). This means you should be able to just tell your clients that if they upload a file called "file.pdf" the URL they could link to would look like this:

http://www.yoursite.com/pp/uploads/file.pdf

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to let me know! Smile
