Strange problem when republishing stories in a new directory Can't Post

I have been looking for the past two hours for the solution of a strange problem with NM. Maybe there is a very simple solution - better to explain what the problem is.

It pertains to my small website www.religion.info. In order to make it clean, I have decided to resume every month with a new directory, since there are up to 20-30 short stories a month.

So I go into the Publish settings. I rename the publish directory: for September, it was 2003/09, then for October it becomes 2003/10. In the http://www.religion.info/index.shtml webpage, I put as only content:

<!--#include virtual="/2003/10/index.shtml" --> (in September, of course, it was .../09/index.shtml)

I add some new stories, save the settings, republish the stories (republish all), and then - after there are a few stories for the current month - remove the September stories from the October directory and leave them only in the September directory. This ensures that my URLs remain permanent, which wouldn't be the case if I would move the old stories to an archives section.

Seems fine and easy. But this month, I come across a very strange problem. I do everything as indicated. But if I open www.religion.info, despite refreshing the page after having put several times <!--#include virtual="/2003/10/index.shtml" --> online, I still get connected to the September index page.

If I open the http://www.religion.info/2003/10/index.shtml page, it opens indeed, but for some strange reason, the links are wrong: I get links making 2003/10 appear as a subdirectory of 2003/09, with results such as:

http://www.religion.info/2003/10/2003/09/news_70.shtml

Of course, empty page! However, the correct page http://www.religion.info/2003/10/news_70.shtml exists, if I type it manually.

I just don't understand what happens. It seems very easy, it seems I have done evertyhing correctly. What should I do in order:

1) to make sure that my <!--#include virtual="/2003/10/index.shtml" --> redirects to 2003/10 page, and not to /2003/09 page?

2) to have the links in the 2003/10/index.shtml appearing correctly, and not as a subdirectory of 2003/09?

It is very strange, I believe I have done everything correctly. But maybe there is a very small detail I have not paid attention to and which creates the problem?

I am confident that, once again, the helpful Interactive Tools staff will find the way out! I am looking forward to hear from you, since I would like to put some new stories online, but I would like to make sure that I have a solution to that problem first.

Thank you!

Re: [tribulatio] Strange problem when republishing stories in a new directory [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there!

Thanks for your post. :)

Without looking at your templates, it's almost impossible to say what might be causing the problem. I suspect that somewhere, you've got a link that should have the full path information -- such as /2003/09/filename.html -- but only has 2003/09/filename.html instead. This will have it looking in the directory it's already in, rather than the directory you're trying to look in.

However, as I said, without looking directly at the site, it's hard to say what might be the problem. You might want to fill out a support request on our site here:

I hope this helps! Let me know if you're still having trouble. :)

SmileYES! Donna, you are wonderful! I knew that the helpful people at Interactive Tools would find a way to solve the problem! And of course you are right! I had completely forgotten that I should make a change in the template too (NM is so easy to use... one forgets that there are still a few things which don't take care of themselves automatically!). I have replaced /09/ with /10/ in the index template... and the problem is solved! It was so easy! But the only thing I had forgotten to check.
Many thanks once again for your outstanding support!
