Customizing News Manager Can't Post

Hi there, We are in the process of customizing news manager and search and have a few questions:
  1. I would like to have thumbnails (50 x 50) of the larger uploaded image (100 x 100) on the index page beside each article name to spice up the index page.
  2. I would like the ability to split up the article summaries into table cells similar to what I have done here:http://www.bioclan.com.
  3. I would like the ability to point the finished detail article to a specific page....so instead of the the article being created in the /nm/publish folder and being called news_11.html, I'd like to save it to the root and call it for example "files.html".

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time

Re: [gamefrags] Customizing News Manager [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Sean,

1. To have images for each news article on the main index page for News Manager, this would have to be setup manually for each entry. For example, you would have to upload the image in News Manager, and then use HTML to reference the image in the summary of each article. This would be a workaround because such functionality is not included with News Manager by default. This is very easy to setup using Article Manager, as the functionality is built into the program.

2. This is also something that is not built-in to News Manager, and I am not aware of any workarounds for this. Perhaps it could be done using JavaScript. Once again, this would be fairly easy to setup using Article Manager and SSIs.

3. This is something that is not possible with News Manager, but (are you noticing a trend here? :-) is possible with Article Manager. With Article Manager you can specify what you want the file name to be for any articles that you create, and you can also specify where you want the /publish directory to be. So if you want it to be the web root, you can specify that. However you can't currently specify that specific files get published into specific directories... If you wanted certain files to be published into the web root, you would have to change the publish directory to the web root which means that all files would be published there.

As you can see, Article Manager is the program that has the functionality that you require. News Manager is just sort of a trimmed down version of Article Manager with less features.

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions, feel free to let me know.

Hmmmmmmmmm....ok. Is it possible to upgrade to Article Manager rather than purchase a new license? I can't see us using News Manager if we upgrade to Article Manager.Unsure

Hi Sean,

That shouldn't be a problem... Just contact orders@interactivetools.com and mention that you want to upgrade from News Manager to Article Manager, and also include your News Manager product ID if possible.
